East wind? I smell woodsmoke in Bamber.

    Lock's Bridge

Microtopography. Hmm, there is a $2 word if ever I saw one. It appears that is what they were trying to create at Franklin Parker Preserve when they scooped thousands of holes the width of a backhoe.

    What do I have here?

Well, if you are not certain, don't take a chance like that. Go by other features of the snake. I'd hate to see someone bit by just making an assumption. PS: you knew you'd get a comment like mine, right? :)

    Digital SLR Questions

I like your analysis on manual focus with point and shoots..."with the little point and shoots the autofocus is maddeningly difficult to get to focus on what you want!" I agree! A lot of times I just wing it. I am very inept with all the features on today's cameras. I don't even try that much...

We don't need no stinking roads...

:) I can bet the white shield is there in case a propeller cuts loose. With that many motors he's definitely in risk avoidance mode.

    Mary Ann Thompson

She was a sweet lady. PBX did a trip in May 2002 titled "Begin the Batsto. We started out along the river below Carranza Road and went upstream until the water ran out. We had to cross their property so I asked permission in advance, and she graciously gave it to us. Up there, you have this...

    Denali is Now!

I admit, it was scary reading. I would be devastated that it would come to that before I even saw it in the raw.

    Denali is Now!

I don't get it, what is that? It seems a mix between an amusement park and Yellowstone? Is it for real?

Well that complaint sir, must be taken to Room 413, two floors down.

    Denali is Now!

Why yes, I would support it. In fact it was robbed of the original name Cape Canaveral by executive order. And, if an Executive Order by Christie changed Brendan Byrne Forest back to Lebanon State Forest, I'd support that too. Wouldn't you?

Jersey cranberry farm celebrates 125 years

The article does not exactly say it, but hints that the name Haines was the first (or one of the first) to create bogs for cranberries. I also read where Sorden's bogs were the first in 1850. And Peg Leg Webb?...well, I don't know. It's confusing.

    Naked man hiking.

Exactly. Liberating is the word. Throw in free, cool, and open too. I've done it a few times. Not many mind you, but there is nothing like it. Must have low humidity, hot temps, and white sand. You feel like you are getting away with something sacred that you should not have to hide from.

    20MP DSLR quality iPhone/Pad camera

There are helpful internet sites available that define the meaning of words when you are stuck. All you have to do is type in a word and--voila!-- the definition magically appears. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/

    Dedicated GPS vs. iPhone/Gaia GPS

Yes, the Montana, and yes to Birdseye. The 95 aerials are suited to Guy's stone hunting, but I'm hunting vegetative patterns. The 95's are very poor for that. To me, Birdseye is better than the 2007 aerials because it shows shades of color with more precision. I have everything south of I95 on...
