    NJDEP issues drought watch

Yes, I was working home today and watched the radar hammer the delaware river. Not a drop here since 8AM. Have you noticed the training pattern of the storms up the east coast over the past 18 months or so? Not usual, like a ball of spinning precipitation (Nor'easter), but like a long thin...

    Statewide Fall Bow Opener

If that is so, then why make it statewide? Look at zones 21, 23, and 24---I don't see an urgent need to get as close as 150 feet to a building. They kill few deer compared to the rest of the state in those zones anyway.

    Statewide Fall Bow Opener

Good point about that Scott. You guys know me, I don't pull any punches about dumb laws, and this one is plain stupid in my opinion. Everyone across Lacey Road has a home that backs up to Double Trouble SF. If a guy has a clearing in the back, a hunter could be in plain view all day while he...

    Whats dis?

That is really cool Al....when Bear and I went we walked up the Plains Branch from the road below, and came out right close to where you were. I remember being surprised by seeing a short-leaf pine that was tall for the area there. When you look at the topo, I expected to see across a vast...

    Whats dis?

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Seems to be a lot of trouble to go through....then maybe again they like the challenge. The place Bear and I went was also on our hands and knees, and tough even at that. I can remember having to stop, on my knees, breathing heavy, and deciding just what the hell I...

    Whats dis?

That is real thick in there Al. I just don't think its hunting territory. Bear and I were out that way. Its very high, actually as high as Forked River Mountain. Perhaps a couple wise guys cleared it to put down a lawn chair and be able to view the sunrise or sunset. My hats off to them...

Withered, Waterless, And Parched....A Guy And Bob Great Swamp Hike

I think it was a garter OC, but I am not good on the small snakes at all. I did not see a yellow stripe on the mid-back.

Bone Dry II: The Sequel (No 1/4 Mile References)

Maybe the problem is higher evaporation rates combined with no rain. http://climate.rutgers.edu/stateclim_v1/images/nj_12month_temp_dep.JPG

    Plant ID Help needed

Hi Joyce! That first one I do not recognize right now. Not much to go by. that second one may be what you think it is, lets give it a little time to bloom. The last two may indeed be what you say, but I'm not real familiar with stick-tites yet.

Bone Dry II: The Sequel (No 1/4 Mile References)

Thanks Scott. That was a good dissertation, and very interesting. I do remember how dry 2002 was. We went without appreciable rain through a winter, spring, and summer, and at summer's end it was getting a little scary. I remember how many times we had the threat of rain, but it just could not...

Bone Dry II: The Sequel (No 1/4 Mile References)

Dave, that is not my theory, but since we are both out of our league on this, your guess is as good as mine. My supposition is that the hydraulic flushing action of all that rain and water weight may have driven all the normal stuff found in between the sand particles (crushed leaves, twigs...

Bone Dry II: The Sequel (No 1/4 Mile References)

From Saturday, down to the last bit of water in the pines. If you can tell me exactly where this is, you get 7 points. PS: I'm not so sure that this is a dire situation here. There was something very unique about this past winter/spring, snow 3 times in a row with rain on top. It may have...
