    Some 2009 Photos

Christmas 2009 with the family is come and gone. Love is what binds us together. Posting a few photos taken in the Pine Barrens from late summer / fall 2009. This is what the beaver dam at Webb’s Mills looks like now. It is huge, taller than me. They have the upper hand I think. From...

Between the Lupin and the Laurel

Is that good prose or what Jerseyman? Beautiful-just beautiful. What a cultured party of gentlemen they were. Imagine wanting to go back in your canoe to fetch your coat before asking the lady for a pail of eggs. I believe it a true adventure, no? How else could he have been so descriptive of...

In the Shadow of the Pines

Yes, I would like that. I think others would be very interested to see his description of the Weymouth Furnace in its dying days, and I think the canoe and kayak lovers on this site would be interested in his journey down the Great Egg. Thanks! PS: is the story also set in 1907 or thereabouts?

Well said Chris. I feel the same way. My brother lives in Louisiana. They can keep it.

In the Shadow of the Pines

Very nice Jerseyman. That gentleman is very observant.....quite a naturalist! That toadflax is very scarce these days. I think I told you this once. Ben found "Between the Lupine and the Laurel" on the web but he did not want to post it as he found it on a private site. I have it too. Do you...

    First post from a newbie

You definitely sound like kin to us. If you ever want me to check up on that cabin to ensure all is well let me know. You can trust me. I'll take any excuse to go down to the Plains.

    A Harrowing Fire Story!

I've always heard that the safest thing to do when caught in a fire is get onto already burned ground. I suppose you are supposed to run in between the flames and hope you don't catch fire yourself. Thankfully, I have never had to test that method.

Cycling through the Pine Barrens in 1895

An absolute delight Jerseyman. What a pleasant read indeed. Good way to start my day. That feller is quite the poet! I see the blacksmith visited Brindletown, so if that was close by, then these gentlemen probably entered from the North by Browns Mills. I'd love to see those photographs.

A Botanical Trip to the Pine Barrens, c. 1900

Jerseyman, thanks very much for this and the last post. It is so rich in information that I will need several viewings to digest and comment upon it, which I will do. I note that some of the plant names have changed over the years, and perhaps a spelling or two is incorrect (at least per today's...

    Snow ??

Tom, don't forget carbohydrates! Protein alone will slog you down. My total is 21 inches. I don't see how Philly can claim 23.5 in the city and 12 to 19 all around them. Like Medford, the lake or bay effect? Maybe its just the drifting where its measured at the airport? This is dubious...
