Earthen Damn at Stafford Forge Burst

I saw the area today. The rare plants were under water until the lake drained. Being under water next spring would have been disastrous. So we have good and bad here. This is the bog that was under water.

    A Sawmill, or is it?

"just has to be in the family, or it just don't pay at all." I can understand that....one guy to rake, one guy to load and drive, one guy to offload and dry, and one guy to bale. If they all wanted pay it would not be profitable.

    A Sawmill, or is it?

That is so very cool that you went there to track it down Guy. No foundations or anything? Thanks for the credit, but I"ll always give you the benefit of doubt until some relations to the mossies confirm it, or if you find the baler parts. Maybe though, they moved them to another clearing or...

    crazy cedar

Thats the one I'm thinking of. I don't see how that can be 150 years older than the Mutha, even with the water where it is. By the way, see if the bore hole closed up already. I'll bet it has.

    crazy cedar

I'll pass on this one. I'm going down to Stafford Forge. Have a good time. PS: don't let Jeff drag you through the briars. Several of us got bloodied up but we had a great time. He knows a way that has no briars, but he was getting some secret pleasure watching us bleed.

    A TASTE OF NJ's HISTORY

When I was in High School at Pemberton, it was a big deal to skip school and hitchhike to Mount Holly. I have no idea why. I did it too. There really is a mount there.

Ha! Bridgeton has not changed in 100 years. That is a strange little town I think.

Earthen Damn at Stafford Forge Burst

Oh crap! That has a very rare plant in the corner of that area....up where there is a little savanna-like bog next to those sandy parking spots. I'm going to go check it out this weekend to see if they were destroyed.

    An Afternoon Moon

Nice photos Mark. I love sunlight and I happen to love the word "hardscrabble". Its a great descriptive word isn't it? I imagine the sodbusters in rough work clothes on their hands and knees scraping at the hard pebbly ground and trying to get something growing out of it.

    Books I got!!

Jeff, That is a great find, especially the Plants of Southern NJ. It is probably the 1973 reprint, right? That is about $150 now. If you had the 1910 version it would be around $300. And they sell very easily.

    The Mignonette

They would have not stuck him with the penknife for weeks if they had ample water, and maybe not at all. Maybe dehydration also makes you irrational enough to think you can and should get away with it, and even that O'l Jimmy over there looks mighty tasty.
