Tom, I believe that is Lespedeza cuneata, Chinese Bush Clover. It is an out of control invasive plant this has taken over many fields and waste places. I did not even notice this plant 10 years ago. Now it is everywhere.

I am yet to be very familiar with the low-to-the-ground clovers Tom, but I think that is some type of Lespedeza.

Likely to be Polygonum pensylvanicum. Though there are many in that genus. Was this along a road? If so, it is very likely.
