Remember the days of riding a Schwinn?

I am very impressed by that. And I am soooo glad the music was good and not hip-hop.

    Brasilia

I found a half dozen Time Life books from the 1960s at a yard sale several years ago. Each one features a different continent; its history, culture, geography etc. I started in on Brazil about a month ago and was very intrigued by Brazil as a country, and mostly by the planning and construction...

Shack in the middle of the woods?

I have been there. It is not an aged building....looks more like a well-built pre-fab. They care for it very well. I love that area, so asked the owners if I could hang there in return for checking up on the place once in awhile for them. They never replied to my letter. My memory says they are...

    Tuesday with Alfie

That reminds me Al. Check this out. Sunday I'm hunting plants behind the church in Whiting where they've cleared some trees for houses and I come across this. This too is Chestnut I believe; American Chestnut. This shoot from the remnant is huge, at least 5" in diameter lower down the trunk...

    WHAP...bap-bap!

That leaves me speechless. So too do the "arm injuries" after being ejected from a car that had been cut in half. When I first ran out there and saw the stub of a pole still smoking from the friction and creosote, and the front half wedged in the woods a football field further up, I was...

    Flower ID

Could this be Spotted knapweed, the scourge of our pinelands? Centaurea biebersteinii. It is a hated and feared plant as it releases a toxin that destroys the competition and sucks all the water out of the soil...

    Flower ID

Tom, I believe that is Lespedeza cuneata, Chinese Bush Clover. It is an out of control invasive plant this has taken over many fields and waste places. I did not even notice this plant 10 years ago. Now it is everywhere.

    Flower ID

I am yet to be very familiar with the low-to-the-ground clovers Tom, but I think that is some type of Lespedeza.

Likely to be Polygonum pensylvanicum. Though there are many in that genus. Was this along a road? If so, it is very likely.

    WHAP...bap-bap!

I have lived within 150 feet of the curve on Lacey road in Bamber for 27 years now. Not a year goes by without at least one accident on the curve. Countless times I've ran out there to see if I could give assistance. The one last year was awful...a motorcylce broadsided an SUV and the man died...
