    Doggone it Tom, you are good! That is Goodyera pubescens.....Rattlesnake plantain. Like the fly poison, not a true pine barrens plant, but unique as it is in the area and is an orchid. I'd like to see it.

    Thanks Glo. I'm embarrassed to say that other than the box turtle and garter snake, I don't know what the two young frogs are. If pressed, I'd say a spring peeper for the first one and a fowlers toad for the next one. Seems our herpers have been absent from the board.

    Its elementary Watson. All the deer has to do is put reach down and pluck the the inflorescence from the stem. The fence is too close to it. We didn't think of that!

    I love a great pines excursion in the summer. The best part for me (being single) is getting to stay out till dark as I wend my way home. Those 3 hours from 5-8 pm feel like freedom unleashed.
