Ahh, the mystery continues. I did not think it was anything but fly poison since they look familiar. Maybe yours is an even better match. Here is the fly poison. In the past they would crush the bulb and if a fly landed and used it for some nefarious reason, it keeled over and died...

Tom, something Guy emailed me jogged my memory. I think that is a toxic plant called fly poison. Now I really want to see it. He emailed me this photo he found on the net thinking it was the same as a Zigidenus he and I found while canoeing a couple years ago. I don't think it is, I think its...

That is sensitive fern Tom. Onoclea sensibilis. I'm not sure what the other plant is. You are on the border of the pines and farmland, right? That throws me off.

Cool. I was there, on my way to Tangle Lakes. Isn't that view to the north while on that highway the absolute Boss?

That, my friend, is a very interesting plant. I think it is in the lily family. It kind of looks like turkey beard but for the leaves at the base... PS: I'd like to see that plant for myself. It really intrigues me. Do you have any spare time this weekend, just for an hour or so?

That meadow beauty looks like Rhexia virginica. That last photo, number 64 is a puzzle. What kind of habitat? What does the inflorescence look like?

    Fern ID?

Very pretty photo. reminds me of the steamy south. I had two of those in my backyard and I hated them. They dropped those flowers continually. But the smell was heavenly.

    July Pine Plains

Yes, those who chose Nighthawk are correct. It was angry at me and Buddy for invading his territory and stopped here 15 feet from my truck, and calmly let me take the photos. This was one of those magical Pine Barren nights for me. The glow stayed with me all day today. It often gets like...

    Thompson's Beach, Caviar

Melancholy. I wonder what it would look like without all that rubble. They could create a Class B recycling facility down that way just for that. Nice photos Jim.

    July Pine Plains

I spent a beautiful evening far out in the Pine Plains, both sides of 539, south of Warren Grove. I love it...so elemental and raw. I know this bird. Do you? He/she stayed very close to me.

    Independance Day

Congratulations and enjoy the beautiful weather. This country is worth fighting for, but quite a few people who live here and take advantage of the country (and the people) are not. Greed, apathy, "me too" attitude....criminals who take from others because its easier....these will bring us down...
