    2008 Pinelands Short Course

Very cool. I'll go, but I'll miss Mark Demitroff. He was the best presenter last year. If anyone else is going and want to hook up with me for a couple brews and sandwich or dinner at a local watering hole after it ends, lets do it.

I've heard that is true when dating women too.

    The Sleeper; a kayaking adventure

By the way my Pine Barren Brothers, that second photo is a real keeper. It has just enough detail in it to keep your eye interested and wandering over it, and at the same time the scene is calm and peaceful. The phragmites agains the eastern sky and the grass in the foreground in the water...

    Puddles

I know that one Firetech. You are right, its an unassuming monster. I have been known to park right before it and walk into Crossley from there, even in my toyota pickup. There is not much of a go-around.

    The Sleeper; a kayaking adventure

Nice trip my Pine Barren Brothers! Very smooth and nice. Jeff, I am still ignorant of most grasses, but that is what I think that is; a species of phragmites reed grass. It is far too large to be a carex.

    Up Nash's Cabin Way

I just realized that I have never seen a cedar felled by a beaver. Anyone else notice that?

    metal fence post?

No, it really doesn't have to be from Jersey. Know what I find even odder? That we still bury our dead in concrete vaults and oak caskets with velvet lining on the inside. Tell you the truth George, I think cemetaries are a waste of land, and not worth saving beyond, say, 100 years. I vote for...

    metal fence post?

Largo, read his second post again. He said...."most of them i've seen have the hole in 2 different sides, but i've occasionally seen them where it was a wide plot where there was a post or two in between the corners". He would not have said that unless the hole went all the way through. Also...

    metal fence post?

You guys keep saying a hole in one side, but I read the original post again and he says it was a through hole, meaning it could be a middle post.

KeroseneCity, you'll come to find out this "old" man and many "old" men on this site are visual people. We love maps, we love arial photos, and we love looking at the pines. It would be best if you could pinpoint it on a map, or google, or topozone and link us to it. Does not have to be the...

    Cabela's Boar Hide Field Pants

Good deal Ben! I have the wranglers. They have lasted about 28 trips so far, since I started wearing them from trip #8. 1.) Jan 1999: "What are those small pond-like formations about 1.5 miles into the woods East of Route 539"? 2.) Mar 1999: “Bear Swamp Hill” 3.) May 1999: “Forked...

    Stephen Creek and Maple Lake

Thanks for sharing Boyd. I wish more people would. I always like seeing a trip report from an area I have never been to. Those thorns are a species of smilax I'm thinking. The grass you cited in one photo is probably not a grass but a sedge; Carex striata. Nice photos.

    A Merry Wescoat Christmas

I'll bet it was nice and peaceful out there. Sorry the Gods of hunting were not with you today, but any day spent with your children is a good day in my book.

    Mouth of the Mullica

Actually, you and Gabe are probably both right. I'll bet what happened in Forked River was an overzealous rush to get all the cedar they could out of it. Then, seeing the outrageous damage clearcutting did, they started building cranberry bogs but never really made them productive. I'll keep an...
