    Adirondack Trip

Thanks you all, glad you enjoyed them. Here is one I forgot for the herpers. I found him by the high water bridge. It did not seem natural. He was very slow and plodding, perhaps cause it was about 63 degrees out? Is he a bull frog?

    Adirondack Trip

This flatlander decided it was time to get back up to another area I really like, the Adirondacks in NY. I have been there about 6 times previously, but this time I went to the High Peaks area around Lake Placid. I set off this Tuesday, with the main goal to climb Mount Marcy (5400 feet), NY’s...

This heat should raise some alarms

You can't have it both ways Mark. Global warming is still an open question to you? That is surprising you feel that way because lot of knowledgeable scientists think it is definitely real. You think its 50-50 because the world increases in temperatures enough to go through ice ages, and while...

    The Batsto and Mullica

I don't believe this is accurate Jeff, or even close to accurate. Everything I have ever read indicates they only traveled through, or maybe hunted in the pines before retiring to their villages along the Rancocas and other rivers where agriculture was more fruitful (no pun intended). The...

A PBX Hike, The Warren Grove Wildfire 6 Months Later

Here is another relieving thing to do for those that get really hot and itchy. I do this at work or while I'm trying to sleep and I have one or two that refuse the stop itching. Get an ice pack and hold it on the bite for 5-10 minutes. It takes away the itch for a long, long time.

For those interested in learning more about how spungs were formed, Mark Demitroff is giving a talk in November. Here is the information he gave me. I highly recommend it. I saw the one at the short course and it was really interesting: The Gloucester County Nature Club invited me to speak at...

    Good News

I don't think so. They won't release the actual parcel information until its a done deal. That is a wise decision. If someone else wanted it they could walk in and outbid the state. They say...."The Forked River Mountains in Lacey", but I surmise they are just using the common name for the...

    Roberts Branch

Nice photos. Where is that branch? I'll bet the peat was for a pot farm.

    Dover Forge

Thank you all, for your kind comments. Yes Ben, after a fashion it is. I believe it is a class one river. Up in the headwaters it has very little impact from pesticides, large developments, etc. The one thing that may affect it in the future is the septic systems in Bamber (like mine). And...

    Dover Forge

I cleaned a couple gutters on my house yesterday, so I treated myself to a walk in the far end of Dover Forge at dusk; Hidden Creek. Not often visited: Same creek, downstream: Jumbled view of cedars: Vine on burned cedar: Coopers? The cedar at Dover forge is...

    Dead deer in the Mullica

That is not natural. I wonder if some highway department worker is dumping them in the creek as they find them on the road. You should send an email to the Forest Service.
