Blocking ATV Access To Spung's In Wharton

Some things are better left unsaid. A lot of work went into the planning and execution of those barriers.

Blocking ATV Access To Spung's In Wharton

Wonderful! I love it. I want to congratulate Terry for having the foresight to put this all together. A tough task, all of that coordination. And what about Guy and Jess-- what can you really say about those two? They have participated with me on about 10 of the Forked River Mountain Cleanups...

    Lebanon State Forest Project

PS: I'm going to show my 5-year old grandson Aydan that photo of the costumed skull. I'm going to tell him we have no idea who put it there, or what it means. What do you think his reaction will be?

Guy, what is that belt-like object in the last photo to the right of the stones.

If they cut that price in half they'd have me. They are very tight with their pricing.

Enduro Club Use of the Pines

True words you spoke there Smoke. Saturday, I was doing some exploring on Webb's Mill Branch back by Carusoville. They had recently burned there next to the lake. A good thing yes, but they dozed that road open again; needlessly in my opinion. But at least they created a sand mound to close it...

Enduro Club Use of the Pines

You'd be surprised John, how often firecuts do go through small pockets of lowlands at times while traversing uplands. These are not often shown on the maps, and are very small (say, 10 yards diameter) but they are out there and are definitely violated by the plow. Also, even those that go...

Enduro Club Use of the Pines

I think for those people, that would violate forest regulations. I don't have a problem with Enduros at all. They are part of the Pine Barren tradition. But with that said, it would be great if: --They were planned to avoid sensitive areas. --They were all mapped. --After a certain amount (like...

Tick Ecology in NJ Pine Barrens?

Are we not warming more climate-wise? Look at this month. So, if it has a bearing on it, south Jersey is warmer than north jersey on average, so we'd get an increase in ticks before the North does. BTW, I climbed a hill on the side of Monksville Reservoir (Passaic County) 10 years ago while...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Funny you ask that. I had a very interesting conversation with somebody in the know last week. He said he was talking to a worker he knew that helped run the dredge. He said they ran into an ancient swamp, and hit some wood, and that it was a pain because they didn't want the wood mixing in. I...

    Clean Water Act

I don't think it will affect the Pines. The Pinelands National Reserve and the Comprehensive Management Plan (think home rule) were created long before that document.

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Thanks for the info Scott. Our guy is not like your guy. He has gone hog-wild. The cliffs are 30 to 35 feet high, and probably approach at least 55 degrees on the one he already dug. He is going to have a hard time creating a slope.

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Scott, thank you for that information. So, essentially you are saying that the 150 foot transition is only applicable to high quality areas outside the pinelands. I read the model, and the expansion of this sand mine requires a 300 foot buffer, no doubt about it; it is in the preservation...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Scott, another question. The plan has the requisite 300 foot buffer between a wetland and the edge of his mine, but I see another requirement I can't make out called the "transition area adjacent to intermediate or exceptional resource value wetlands." Is that the same as the wetland buffer, or...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

I'm hoping someone smarter than me on this board can help me interpret something in the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan regarding bodies of water created by resource extraction (sand plants). In the plan, this verbiage below is one of the requirements for restoration of the site when...
