Right around an 8" total here. One short power blip around midnight that lasted less than a minute. Gonna try a cardiac test before work. ;)

    2017-18 Winter weather

It's been a dud so far. Not much on the ground here yet, maybe 3"- 4". Worked all day with a skeleton office crew. But it sure does make for a refreshing woods walk with the Bride and Murphy after work. :)

I enjoy States of Emergency. Most of the inept drivers stay home and there are no phones ringing here at the office. :)

Maybe we'll see this again. 28" of snow on February 26, 2010. Taking the late, great Hank back to the bogs an hour after it all stopped.

East Plains Wilderness, A PBX Hike

Black gum doesn't produce the sticker balls that you are referring to. The woods behind my house when I was a kid was 80% sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua) and the rest was red maple. Textbook deciduous wetlands. Not only did we have to rake leaves, we had to rake the sweet gum sticker balls...

East Plains Wilderness, A PBX Hike

Guy's photo was taken very close to the tree and makes it look like a pine tree somewhat. Black gum bark actually looks more like a young white oak. The bark is very gray, slightly platy and usually doesn't get blocky until it gets older. The link below contains the most realistic photo that I...

East Plains Wilderness, A PBX Hike

Bulletproof, Never gonna die, Knucklehead. Words that I would use to describe myself. Until lately. Never had an ache or a pain or any health issues and 60 is less than 6 months away for me. However, starting in October of '17 I started having back pain, not totally debilitating but not much fun...

Nyssa sylvatica Guy. You have to remember that Bob is seeing this. :)

    Is nothing sacred?

I haven't bought many things at Bean since the 1970's and 80's. To me, that is when I started seeing more imported crap in their line. I still buy their wool hunting socks because they are still US made but if that stops, I'll go elsewhere. I migrated to Filson for the US made tin cloth hunting...

    Dead clothes dryer

Many people aren't familiar with High Standard Joe. They made amazing target pistols and won Olympic competitions in the 1950's and 60's. My first shotgun when I was 10 was an H&R Topper 12 ga. When I was 12 I was give a High Standard Flite-King Deluxe 12 ga. pump for Christmas. I used that gun...

    Dead clothes dryer

Never owned a bolt action shotgun until last year when I bought a rifled Savage 220. It is really a rifle that just happens to shoot shotgun shells. 1" groups at a 100 yds. with Remington Accutips and it hurls a 260 gr. saboted slug out of the muzzle at 1900f.p.s..

    Dead clothes dryer

Here it is 46er. Most likely it was made by High Standard for Sears. Some info I found said H&R made it but I think High Standard was more likely. This gun is interesting in that is a tube fed magazine bolt that "...loads underneath like an expensive model." :) Most bolts have a detachable box mag.

I will look later today 46er. I’m out on the road right now.

Sage advice from Ted Williams. "Buy the best gun you can afford."

Maybe one of these two Joe ?

The double is probably a Savage/Stevens. Sears had contracts with all the major manufacturers. I have a Sears Ted Williams gun catalog somewhere. I'll dig that up.

    Dead clothes dryer

My most prized gun, mainly for sentimental reasons. It was my father's Sears J.C Higgins Model 60 semi-auto purchased from Sears in Camden in 1957. Killed my first duck with it. The gun still functions flawlessly and is built like a tank. High Standard made these for Sears. I still have a full...

    2017-18 Winter weather

Made it home after several detours for accidents, stuck vehicles and downed wires. I saw a transformer arc up and then explode right in front of me on the Pike in Chesihurst that actually left me seeing white spots for a minute. It was actually pretty cool to see. The liquor store in Chesihurst...
