Old backpacker Article on the Barrens

And sadly, they don't make stuff in America the way they used to. Many of those ads were for products made here. The Schrade LB 7 shown in one ad is my daily carry. The guarantee against loss was no bullshit either. I exercised it on a lost LB 3 back in the 80's. I bought a lot of Schrade...

    Dennisville

Dennis Township is a great and wild area Bob. The waterfowl hunting, crabbing and fishing, both salt and fresh, is killer death down there. As long as there is a breeze, the bugs are tolerable, even in the middle of summer. (In my opinion) We usually hit Dennis Creek with the jon when the ocean...

    NJ DOT Local Names List

Good old Pestletown made the list ! Now, if we could only figure out how it got its name. Jerseyman spent considerable time on that question a few years back and came up empty. That doesn't happen very often.

    Pine Barrens Diamonds, Digsite

I did some soils work on a privately owned site in Waterford back in the 80's that was loaded with old glass chunks just below the surface. A local old timer told me it was from a nearby glass factory explosion back in the day.

Found Beagle on Rte. 206 4-21-13

The saga has reached a happy closure after 6 weeks. The women took him for a heartworm test (negative), lymes test (positive) and had him neutered (Ouch!) He was not chipped. As of Friday, he was off to NY to a rescue that has list of people waiting to adopt beagles. I raise a glass to that...

    Field Recording of Singing Frogs

That is NOAA Weather radio, I have it on in the boat quite a bit. I believe that particular recording was a human voice. Most of the transmissions are now synthesized and they offer a male and female robot for your listening pleasure.

Found Beagle on Rte. 206 4-21-13

Thanks dogg but I am not half as good as the piney I left the dog with and who still refuses to take a dime for dog food. I'll make that right later. Today I spent a frustrating two hours calling various local rescues and shelters. There are a lot of hoops to jump through to relocate a stray...

Found Beagle on Rte. 206 4-21-13

Well it is timely that someone revived this thread today. I thought it was strange that I hadn't heard anything from the person who was going to take the dog so I sent him a PM through another website on Monday. I was contacted this morning and found out that he never came down to take the dog ...

    Rubsam and Horrmann Brewing

You beat me to it Boyd! Weak minds think alike. My condolences to the Horrmann clan. It must have been defective brew to allow melancholia to thrive and persist to such a degree in its very founder.

    Dogs in the Pines

Dogs are allowed anywhere in a State Forest, as long as they are on a lead having a max length of 6'. Dogs that are hunting are exempt for obvious reasons. I was only asked once by a Ranger to put our dogs on leads when we were in the vivcinity of Goshen Pond. I carry a lead and usually only use...

I have a guy who looks like he is going to take him by the weekend and a backup with a rescue if that falls through. Here is the handsome lad. The guy that is keeping him for me has had beagles his whole life and he estimates his age at 2. The beer belly is not mine, although I am...
