    Heart of the Pines

I assume it's still available at the Batsto Gift Shop or through the Batsto Citizens Committee. Their website was updated in 2013, so unless they are just being really mean and taunting us, the book seems to be available. Contact info on the webpage. Good luck. Here --->...

    Announcing the new NJPB Maps

Hurry up and download a free copy of the Beers map before the Library of Congress "partners" with Ancestry.com, like the National Archives.

    Heart of the Pines

Be careful of getting a false sense of a book's worth by the pricing you see on Abe Books, Amazon etc. Princeton Antiques of Atlantic City is notorious for its insanely inflated used book prices, and their listings are everywhere. Hopeful con-artists on Amazon are selling Heart of the Pines for...

Proposed natural gas pipeline through the NJPB's?

It's called "disinformation." Irrational arguments are planted in "news" articles and in social media commentary in order to muddle the legitimate debate. A particular specialty of the local rag Atlantic County calls a Newspaper.

Proposed natural gas pipeline through the NJPB's?

Legislator? I think 'lobbyist' would be a more accurate description of this corporate shill. If it wasn't a pipeline, they'd be pushing mandatory healthcare for dogs or the benefits of poisoned...errr...fluoridated water.

    Windows 8 question....

Run, do not walk from Windows 8; it's just one big surveillance system, with more back doors than a Nucky Johnson speakeasy. Stick to 7 or XP.

Proposed natural gas pipeline through the NJPB's?

@johnnyb Don't forget that Chris Christie is all for this proposed pipeline. This, the governor who shoves the Sustainable Development (Agenda 21) scam down our throats. Apparently, filling your kiddie pool or watering your lawn in the Summer is destroying the environment for future...

    Snowy Owl

I suspect that thing hovering behind the Eagle has been eating my neighbour's chickens. Magnificent shot, I might add. How appropriate our National symbol has been flocking (sorry!) to our area, a patriot stronghold of the American Revolution. Except for Tuckerton of course.

Seeking historical background on lower Mullica river life, mid-18th century

I have come to realise Heston is largely responsible for most of the bad history which has been passed around by Atlantic County historians and historical writers for the past 100 years, which has been insinuated into and thus perpetuated in later works, up to the present. I am constantly amased...

Seeking historical background on lower Mullica river life, mid-18th century

The history of Clarks Landing and the Clark family from the time of Thomas Sr and Hannah (his second wife) is well-established. My family has been intermarrying with the Clarks for generations, and my 3rd great aunt, Mary G*iber*son, is buried along side her patriot husband, Thomas (a grandson...

Seeking historical background on lower Mullica river life, mid-18th century

That's an impressive sentence. Please let me know when you put out a book. I'd like to reserve a copy....lol Regarding the Southern Bank of the Lower Mullica: sadly, so very little is known about what could be described as one of the majour crucibles within which the future state of New Jersey...

    Where is the Shrouds house??

Thanks so much for the informative reply. Those are great leads. I'll be heading to Williamstown in the very near future to investigate these locations. Best regards,

    Where is the Shrouds house??

Although it is commonly called the 'Shroud's' house, it is actually the 'Shourds' house. The Shourds are among my ancestors. I actually live maybe a 5 minute drive from the location of the ruined structure. Be careful you don't get shot for trespassing. Some of the locals are very jealous of...

    Where is the Shrouds house??

Sadly we just lost Harry Leeds, the greatest publicity agent the Jersey Devil ever had. Unfortunately and inevitably we're losing the old timers, and with them so much of our local folk history. Much has already been forgotten. Happily we have books like Mr McPhee's and many others to record...

    Where is the Shrouds house??

Well Fred Brown, whoever Fred Brown is, is full of Baloney. I hope!...lol  My family has lived in the vicinity of Leeds Point since the days of Japhet and Deborah, and not 'a one of us has ever seen or heard this legendary beast. If this creature really does exist? I really don't want...

    Who/what would you be?

It seems, statistically, if you made it past ten years of age back in the 19th and 18th centuries, you had a good shot at reaching an advanced age. Sometimes I have to double check dates because I can't believe how old this great grandmother or that great great Aunt was. Many 90+ year-olds...

    Who/what would you be?

I would probably have commented on the post's vintage as well. Sometimes you don't realise how old a thread is while you're posting a message. But I'm glad I posted in this thread because, as a result, I've made an interesting contact up in Ocean County. BK
