    Mushroom Foraging/Theft...a fine line?

On some other websites specifically for mushroom foraging I've read guidelines for responsible foraging as a rule of thumb not to harvest more than 30% of any particular site. These guys took 100%. Anyway I'm not really upset about the mushrooms so much as this guy's attitude and...

    Mushroom Foraging/Theft...a fine line?

First let me say, I know or knew nothing about wild mushrooms. Early this morning two men in two pick up trucks stopped in front of my house and harvested several large mushrooms from the base of a large curbside oak. By the time I got dressed and got outside one truck left but I was able to...

i need help with the martha area

I'll use NJPB gallery but clearly stuff you've already seen. And actually the well hasn't deteriorated my shot was from a different angle. One other thing I forgot to mention was that there are three large concrete pipes on the NW side of the washout not sure how long they've been there but...

i need help with the martha area

Yes that is the same well. Although it has deteriorated a bit since your photo. Those two blocks remain in the top row are toppled now. Despite following snapfish directions for sharing a link to an album on a forum I don't think you can view it can you? When I test clicked on it was asking...

i need help with the martha area

Teegate, what you are referring to as Highland Park is the first ruin I found but then south east across the Ives Branch dam from that site is the foundation with the well. Never posted pics here before so lets see how I do...the first pic shows the washed out dam, image 2,3,4 are of the site...

i need help with the martha area

I stumbled on this ruin today also and came here trying to figure out what it was. I was hiking Batona from Rt 679 towards Stage Rd. After crossing the washed out Ives Branch dam found another ruin on the Southeast of the dam right off the road. Some old foundation and what looks like a well...

    Bald Eagle Pond

OK, thanks. That may explain it. We did the white trail which loops around Bald Eagle Reservoir entirely on the west side of 563. I just assumed the name of the loop and the fact that an observation tower is on that trail that the eagles would be there.

    Bald Eagle Pond

Hiked the Bald Eagle Pond Trail at Franklin Parker for first time this morning. The "trail" is really a loop of sand roads around the old bogs. The views of the bogs are very nice (binoculars recommended). Sadly we did not spot the eagles and the flies were a major annoyance but turtles...

Poor Peggy Clevenger: Murder or Just an Accident?

I can't imagine being a sober collier...what else are you supposed to do around a fire in the woods at night? Think Cox is just trying to cover for his hires? Also, does anyone have other stories or evidence of opium use in the Pines at the time? The image of an strung out 80 yo woman living...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM HOTEL

My grandparents had a cabin in Ewansville on the Rancocas downstream from Birmingham. In the early & mid-70s they used to take me and my brother to a little penny candy store in Birmingham run by an a very old lady...they used to take my mother to the same store in the 40s and 50s I believe...

Bigfoot sighting...i swear it wasn't me

"We found it surprising that none of the bacon baits (in particular) were missing." -First time seeing this old thread. The quote above is my favorite part of that awesome original article.

Jerseyman, this is incredibly helpful! Thank you. I work not too far from the NJ Archives maybe I can take some time off and get in there too. Thanks again.

Then and Now.....The Accident of the Blue Comet Train

Guy, this is such a nice report. You've inspired me to begin working on a report of an accident between Lakehurst and Toms River in 1918 which killed my great-grandfather. I have a newspaper article but to identify the exact location I believe I would need to refer to an official accident...

GPS & NJPB Live Maps question

This may sound really naive but I do not have a GPS device. I don't want to spend a lot but I want something durable and suitable for exploring on foot off of the trails to some more remote areas. I do not have a smart phone. Am I better off getting a handheld GPS or just upgrading to a...

    Mines Spung Road blocked

I was just out there yesterday heading N on Tucketon Rd. and the intersection at High Crossing & Tuckerton was more of a pond than a puddle. Only way to the middle of the intersection was if you came south on the road parallel to JCRR from Caranza, however if you do that you're stuck on a...

[May 14, 2011] PPA Exhibit Opening: Original Pinelands Art by Terry Schmidt (Southampton, NJ)

I stopped by the exhibit opening this afternoon after visiting Quaker Bridge and Washington in the morning. These are beautiful paintings and you should all stop by if you have time. I've been a long time visitor to NJPB and finally decided to join. I hope I can add something to the forums...
