    Glass Insulators

I'd be in for this too. I know you offered to show me around back there a few years ago. I spent tons of time back there as a kid, swimming in the lakes and stuff, but it would be interesting to get a guided tour from someone else's perspective.

    Tornado Damage

If you're interested in tornado destruction, it may be worthwhile to take a ride down to my neck of the woods. We had a severe one over labor day weekend, that destroyed houses from near the Commodore Barry Bridge, all the way up to the Deptford Mall, where it finally lifted. This is a swath of...

    WMAs closing areas

I kayaked Menantico Ponds this morning. It actually looks like the state used the closure to make a few minor road repairs at the spots that typically get washed out. I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of trash. Anyone notice if the gate is open to the sandwash in Winslow off the east...

    Wharton Campgrounds Reopened

This may be old news to some, but the NJ Outdoors website now allows reservations at all of the Wharton campgrounds. I'm not sure when the change took effect, but it's about time. I thought it was weird no announcement was ever made. They certainly aren't shy about publishing closures...

    Help With Batona Itinerary

Spent all day in the area today. The road conditions are really quite atrocious, from Atsion all the way to QB. Giant mudholes everywhere, deep tire ruts, and even the approaches to the actual bridge are somewhat washed out. Driving off the east end of QB is like driving off a high curb. I take...

    WMAs closing areas

The dirtbike riders (lots from over the bridge) are a real problem in some areas. So are the partiers who leave piles of trash. Instead of stepping up enforcement and hiring additional conservation officers to patrol the areas, their solution is to close it to everyone. How typically NJ...

Some N.J. state parks, forests can reopen for camping June 22, officials say

One month later, still no change. Lower Forge, Mullica River, and Buttonwood are issuing permits beginning June 1 but not Goshen, Hawkins, Godfrey, and maybe some others. It's nonsensical- I thought maybe they would want to keep the ones closed that are hardest to patrol, but that would clearly...

    Quaker Bridge parking

I normally park on the east side, on the little plateau behind the brown waypoint sign. I would say most park on the west side of the bridge nearer the canoe launch.

    Help With Batona Itinerary

Anyone have recent experience with road conditions on Middle Rd or Goodwater, between Batsto and QB? Any bad washouts or bottomless holes?

Some N.J. state parks, forests can reopen for camping June 22, officials say

The latest word is, people who have called were told to check back in a month or so-- that a decision would be made at a future time about the other campgrounds.

    Help With Batona Itinerary

Only a 15-20 minute walk from Lower Forge to Quaker Bridge. As they said, no way to avoid it without swimming. If you park overnight at Atsion, you may want to let the personnel in the office know, if anyone is there. They are technically still closed for the season but you will often see...

Some N.J. state parks, forests can reopen for camping June 22, officials say

I read that. However if you try to make a reservation for any date at all, no matter how late in the year, the campgrounds I mentioned are blocked out.

Some N.J. state parks, forests can reopen for camping June 22, officials say

Ok, found it. It looks like some are accepting reservations and some aren't. Godfrey, Hawkins, Goshen, and Bodine are still showing up as closed on the reservation website. Mullica River and Lower Forge (maybe others also) are open as of June 1.

Now, nine months later, has any word come from Trenton on the primitive campgrounds?

    A-10 Warthog

Interesting video. Do they publish a schedule or give a heads-up on when you might catch them training at Warren Grove?

    Up high...

In August of last year, we took the train up and back one day, and then the following day hiked to the summit via Pinkham Notch and Tuckerman's Ravine. The day we took the cog train the visibility was terrible, maybe 25 feet at the top. I can't remember the date, but it was the day of the big...
