    Jersey Devil: Not Just Folklore?

How big was the animal? What color. How long were you able to observe it, you don't give any detail other than the "kangarooish" posterior. Bears are appearing in many places in NJ that you wouldn't expect. Of course bears don't look like a kangaroo either:confused:

    Turtle's

I was walking in BR state park last week and my father and I saw about 8 or 10 turtles sitting on a log in the part of the lake nearest the ranger station. I assumed they were painters but they were much larger than I am used to seeing them, I would say a foot or more from the back of the shell...

    Question

I am planning on taking a hike with my father. I was wondering what you folks would suggest. Are there any actual "ghost towns" in the barrens? I mean where the structures are more or less intact that would not require a ten mile walk. Thanks for any help.

    Jersey Devil: Not Just Folklore?

Does this mean the towns had deteriorated to the point that the structures were no longer discernable?

Picture of a giant bird seen in the pines

Looks like more than a 4ft. span from the photo. Vultures are huge but that doesn't look like a vulture FROM WHAT I CAN SEE IN THE PIC. Did you see the face? They have no feathers on the head/face and are quite ugly. I have never seen them in the winter either. To answer your question, I don't...

Picture of a giant bird seen in the pines

Could be the photo but that bird appears to have a head that is much larger that any turkey vulture I have seen. In fact the whole bird is larger that any vultureI have ever seen.

    Barrens of fire

I am unfamiliar with the effects of fire in the PB. I do know that it is necessary to some degree to sustain the environment. What impact does it have on the wildlife? Do most animal sense the danger and move out of the area?
