    The rectangular thing

There's a very similar looking building at 39.665657, -74.664018. Fairly identical. I was hoping to go check this out soon but I broke my big toe and am sidelined for the next several weeks.

    Sidney Smith Houses

Hiked up around Nash’s Cabin on New Year’s Day with a couple of buddies and spent some time looking around the cellar holes that I had mentioned in my earlier post. The ones located here: https://boydsmaps.com/#17.00/39.708360/-74.494134/cook/0.00/0.00, which lie in a cleared area designated on...

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

Is this Mick the early ancestor of the Micks from Mick's Canoes? It would be interesting to know if they were up on the family history.

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

Thanks! Man, I wish I knew who cleared that area and why.

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

Not to harp on my foundation holes, but on the 1870 S. NJ Vermeule Topo map (https://boydsmaps.com/#17.00/39.708112/-74.494338/vermeule/0.00/0.00), the foundation holes that I am interested in lie within an area that is bounded by map symbols that I don’t recognize. Anybody have an idea how to...

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

I know where the Oswego Gun Club ruins are, but where are the Buck Tavern (maybe!) ruins?

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

Yes. Those are the holes that I'm curious about. If I recall correctly (and it's been about three years since I was there last, so good luck with that!), there was one very large hole and maybe two smaller ones. They were on the north side of the road going toward Shamong Road .

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

That's what I have for the cabin as well, but I'm talking about a couple of other foundation holes a bit farther off. These are fairly deep, what you'd expect for buildings with a cellar.

    Nash's Cabin Foundation Holes

Happy New Year all! Going this Friday down to the Nash’s Cabin area and then on to the Oswego Gun Club. Just read the Sojourn article about the cabin and want to see it again. The last time I was in that area, there were some foundation holes just northwest of the cabin ruins, at around...

    Constable Bridge

Spent some time with this today. VERY interesting! Might have to go slog in there soon and check out the bogs. I'm always impressed by the canals they dug and the dams they raised. Men of iron!!!

    Constable Bridge

Taking the Scouts hiking this weekend on the Yellow Trail up from Batsto towards Mullica River Camp. Was wondering if anybody had any history on the Constable Bridge. Who was Constable, that kind of thing.

    Batsto Furnace and Forge?

True! Takes a bit of imagination to be sure. But a very nice spot nevertheless. Couldn't get in to where pinelandpaddler suggested. WAY too many thorn bushes. Got the leg scratches to prove it. Probably a really busy place back in the day!

    Batsto Furnace and Forge?

Found this guy close to your coordinates. NJ O 11 L (it appears). Are these survey markers? When were they done?

    Batsto Furnace and Forge?

I doubt that he remembers meeting me, but please let him know how much it meant to me.

    Batsto Furnace and Forge?

Thanks! Going to check out both tomorrow. Did anyone ever do any archaeology there? Seems like the record is sparse. Had the great fortune to run into Budd Wilson back in 2018 at Martha Furnace, when I was trying to plumb the depths of that location. On a whim the dog and I got out of the...

    Batsto Furnace and Forge?

And the forge? From what I can come up with it was south of Batsto. Maybe at the Forks?
