Happy New Year all!

Going this Friday down to the Nash’s Cabin area and then on to the Oswego Gun Club. Just read the Sojourn article about the cabin and want to see it again.

The last time I was in that area, there were some foundation holes just northwest of the cabin ruins, at around 39.708112, -74.494338. Does anybody know any history on these? I seem to remember some comments about this from before, but can’t find them now.

Your coordinates are a little off of what I have for the cabin, and I've been there.
39.70687, 74.49255
Boyd was there too, maybe he can help.

That's what I have for the cabin as well, but I'm talking about a couple of other foundation holes a bit farther off. These are fairly deep, what you'd expect for buildings with a cellar.

Have you seen this thread?

When I made this topo in 2020, I thought Nash's Cabin was here:

https://boydsmaps.com/#17.00/39.706592/-74.492161/pines2020/0.00/0.00

But looking at the 2021 LIDAR, I wonder if that might be off by a few feet? Anyway, that's pretty close.

Ed, here are your coordinates. I don't think those are correct.... are they? That looks too far from the pond.

Just dug out the GPX file with all my old waypoints, and this is what I had recorded for Nash Cabin, probably dating back to my visit in that old 2006 thread you linked to. It's very close to the location on my 2020 topo

@dennis2 - this is the location of your coordinates.

Looks like there's one hole ~40 feet SW of there and maybe some smaller ones? Also appears to be a large one ~200 feet NE of there. I don't know what any of those might be. All historical structure locations I could identify are shown in lavendar on my 2020 topo and those aren't included.

Just to clarify, here are our two different locations for Nash's Cabin, they are about 150 ft apart which is pretty far. This makes me wonder if I'm off-base here? But I'm pretty sure my location is where the tile floor is.

The USGS 24k topo shows a location about 48' West of mine. But those old maps are not very accurate by today's standards.

Boyd, I believe yours from what I remember. The one's I posted were from a Geocache and may be a bit off due to the hide.

Yes. Those are the holes that I'm curious about. If I recall correctly (and it's been about three years since I was there last, so good luck with that!), there was one very large hole and maybe two smaller ones. They were on the north side of the road going toward Shamong Road .

There is some speculation as to weather it was actually Ogden Nash, I will see what I can find. These pictures were taken Oct 30, 2005. There was no cellar hole.

I think that has been pretty well de-bunked.... hasn't it? Guy posted a link to a book about Nash's Cabin in that other thread, I have not read it but will get around to it eventually. :)

Ognden Nash was never there. Read the SoJourn article by Rich Watson.

The cinderblock ruins are the Oswego Gun Club. The older ruins MAY be the ruins of Buck Tavern. There is no proof. However, the tavern was located along Buck run above Martha. I would think it is the tavern but as of yet nobody has come up with clear evidence.

I was there a few weeks ago and will be there again soon. I have a few things to look for. Actually, I was going today but I like to go early and with the poor weather I decided to go to my moms and visit her. To be clear, I was at the Oswego Gun Club and not Nash's cabin.

I know where the Oswego Gun Club ruins are, but where are the Buck Tavern (maybe!) ruins?

With a slate walkway? Purdy fancy.

I have a photo of the building taken in 1967 showing vehicles parked all around it. There is a truck with a camper which was owned by the father of the last owner of the property before the NJCF and others purchased. Jessica and I met up with the last owner there one day when he was taking down his deer stand and he gave me the photo. He also gave me one from the mid to early 50s showing the building and a dog he had which was born the same week as he was in 1947. And Jessica, always knowing what interests me, took a photo of him in the road right at Buck Run and a few of him and his friend trying to take the locked ladder down from their stand. The lock was not working.

I worked for a man who had ties to the place and always took photos. He died many years ago but I know who has his slides. I have tried numerous times to contact them with no results even with their relatives giving me help in trying to contact them. It is very frustrating. When I return to work I will press some more to ask about the slides.
