CURRENT NJ WILDFIRE ACTIVITY

Saturday 03/30/19

MAJOR FOREST FIRE
03/30/19 @ 1400 hrs- SECTION B4- 'Spring Hill Wildfire', Penn State Forest, area of Spring Hill Rd- Crews have started a large burn-out operation from Rt 72 around Coyle Field. Rt 72 is closed from Rt 532 to Rt 539. Crews report rapid rate of spread. Div C trucks are also moving up. One SEAT from Downstown Aero will join the observation and Huey with bucket.

My friend called. They are evacuating people around Chatsworth . A controlled burn that went wild. He said its not good.

I was exploring off Bailey Road by the Shoal Branch, and could see the smoke, but understood the wind was out of the SW, so felt safe. At about 5 PM I left and drove through Chatsworth. Odd to see all the people milling about behind the elementary school. I usually take Savoy NE to go home but that was blocked and so was 532. Had to go up 563 to 72, and then west.

Isn't it late in the year to be doing those burns? The snakes are out of their dens.

It is starting to rain here so maybe we will get enough to put it all out. I think we are going to get less than originally predicted earlier.

Use the link above the image and drill down. They use the GOES east satellite for location. Also read that the winds will be shifting west with the showers that will be passing thru mid-day.

03/30/19 @ 1400 hrs- SECTION B4- 'Spring Hill Wildfire', Penn State Forest, Washington Twp, area of Spring Hill Rd- Crews have been burning-out through the night. Crews reported rapid rate of spread yesterday. Div C trucks also moved up. One SEAT from Downstown Aero worked the fire yesterday with the observation and Huey with bucket. Last size report was 5,000 acres but will increase with the burn-out operation.
