I went to the pines solo on Saturday with the intent of going to Red Oak Grove, I will combine Sunday's outing, but this time i had a partner (Wolfspider), let's start with Saturday first, my main goal was Red Oak Grove, but first i went to Lebanon stopping at this former sand pit. There were a lot of old stones, bricks, and some terra cotta piping in here.
Next i left for Red Oak Grove, taking rt.72 east to the Barnegat Wreckers, the road was sloppy for the first mile but carable, this is a pic of the area to the Grove.
Next is a pic of one of the biggest and deepest cellar holes in the pines.
I found these old bricks in the area.
Then i saw these stones.
Upon leaving the area i then decided to go back to Penn Place taking Stevenson Road to take some extra pics that i missed last time i was there in the rain.
Upon leaving the area my next destination was Veronica Virginica and Eagle, arriving in the area i first took these two pics.
Then to take the final two pics of the day.
A pic of one of the cellar holes at the Tavern site.
It was now time to go home, it was getting late, i was tired, and beat up.
Upon arriving home i got a call from Wolfspider about going out Sunday, Sunday morning i picked him up at his home and we were off to Lebanon, in the woods he showed me this marker.
He then took me to a place that had been eluding me for years, the Lebanon Cemetery, the following four pics are some of the many stones in the cemetery. Notice the glass in the stone.
Glass in this stone also.
The third stone.
The fourth stone.
On leaving the area he informed me that he never been on the east side of Rt.539, so we drove to the Dover Forge area and i showed him some sights in the area, we then crossed Lacey Road staying on Dover Road, i then showed him Carusoville, we then left for Aserdaten, we passed Black's Bridge, and upon arriving at Aserdaten i took the following pic.
I then took this pic of this rock in the Aserdaten area.
Leaving the area we then went to Speedwell and the old Tavern at Eagle, Don told and showed me things in the area that i was unfamiliar with. The one pic and the final pic that i can post is of this stone, there were about six of them, some laying flat, any importance to this stone ?
Time now to go home via Carranza, it was a hard packed highway, arriving back at his home we were saying what a great day it was, he showed me some things, and i likewise did the same for him, we will definitely get together again in the near future, what a weekend.
