Another Boat Dumped in the Woods

For anyone who uses Facebook, the Waterford Township PD just posted photos of another boat that someone has dumped in the woods. The boat has hull numbers and a 2001 registration sticker but according to their post, the DMV no longer has a record of the numbers. That's amazing.

I am attaching a few of the pics. The PD is asking for assistance if anyone locally has seen a boat suddenly disappear from their neighbor's yard.

Engines gone and just about anything else of value, looks like someone stripped it and dumped it.

Another job well done by Waterford Township PD and the NJ Park Police.
The Waterford PD posted this photo today on FB. They said the owner was found and fined.

The boat is still out there. I just saw it. I assume the owner has to remove it and just hasn't done it yet.

If that is a Bertram Moppie. I think it may have some value. Hard to tell from photos or what shape it is in. Some years back during one of the clean ups we found one near Basto. We dragged it back to Atsion

Not a Bertram. They didn't build a lapstrake hull. The hull looks familiar, but I can't put a mfg to it.

I could not recall if they built a lapstrake. The profile look right. Maybe a Owens. The one we dragged was junk and yes it took alot of damage on its trip

There weren't very many lapstrake fiberglass hulls made. Chris Craft built the dory, I had a 1976. They used their wood lapstrake Cutlass for the mold. Wish I still had it

I don't see many Penn Yans on the water anymore. They stand out with that large width lap strake. Looks like at least a 5" strake.
The boat in the picture above looks like its almost ready to be dumped in the woods.

They were around for a loooong time, 80 years, ended in 2001. I recall their claim to fame was the 'Tunnel Drive'. Used to see a lot of them as it made sense for Barnegat Bay. From that web site, they go for decent money.

It was really a pita compounding & waxing the lapstrake on the dory.

Penn Yans were also used by the NJ Marine Police years back (1970's). The "Tunnel drive" versions were able to get into shallow water, but were very inefficient on gas. They were very heavily built as well. I had the pleasure of piloting a friends several times. They handled sloppily in a following swell.
