Atsion Mansion report

Hello all.
I am going to do a practice run here with photos and post a few from what I believe are the 1950s. If this works the next post will be the "new" mansion photos.....

This would be the old cotton mill....

and this the store/office.....

OK this seemed to work. I went to the Atsion Mansion last week and here are a few of my favorite photos...

This is the parlor of the NW corner

Neat stuff. Nice to see the inside redone. But man, what the hell happened to the hand rail on that ramp? Maybe it's just the angle but it looks beat on.

Looks like they tried to have it follow the contour of the wall-lattice-post-etc.....

Great views and angles all. Thanks for sharing your walkthrough and your thoughts with us. I suspect I'll stop in this weekend. It's clear you really love the place and finally get to see it all come to fruition. It does seem just a little odd seeing such stark new clean walls and paint mixed amongst the original adornments. Makes me feel like I'm seeing a walkthrough of a new house being shown for sale. They need to put some "stuff" in and around.
Ya think maybe like a lot of items in Batsto, folks might start popping up with things of the era and even the mansion or family to donate to the place?
I'm glad they grabbed up on as much style and architecture or the place as possible.

Thanks for the really good photo tour. I'm looking forward to visiting it this Fall. I've been driving back and forth on RT 206 to visit my brother since 1969, and always was saddened by the way all the buildings were slowly vanishing. Thank heavens the state finally scraped up the money to give the mansion the treatment it deserved.

Were there many products of the forge inside the mansion such as firebacks, or hardware? In the old Broad Street Church in Bridgeton there's a handsome wood stove from Atsion furnace, and that has promionent large signs warning people that no fires are permitted in it.

Just after I was there I heard they had put in some display cases with artifacts and items the folks were interested in........that had come from the site......especially the restoration artifacts......

I have a pair of cannon-balls from the Revolution, possibly British, not sure. Jerseyman and I have discussed this in past postings. I wish there was a way to determine their origin (assay?). If they were Atsion or Batsto origin I'd donate them. What a beautifully restored building. I wish you would elaborate about the drawing above the mantle. Thanks for the tour. Makes me feel like I'm "home" again. You're great! BTW, my wife LOVES turtles. there must be a million of them around my house ! Hahaha!

If one were to have a thing or two of interest to donate, where to contact?
I would be curious the periods or range of era they are willing to portray there. If it is a little varied, I have a thing or two in mind myself. I would want to make sure they were a fit though.

There's a lot of bog iron stuff in the mansion, but I have a feeling that it came from Batsto and not Atsion.
