Come on your telling me people are going to stop going out to bars because they can't smoke there. I know a bunch of my buddies who smoke who like the ban. They may stop smoking now instead of freezing outside while catching a smoke. Until now they try to quit, but after a couple shots of jaeger and some car bombs their self control goes down and what do they do, bumb a cigarette and give in. Also having cancer once already i don't want it again so i am glad i don't have to breath in my friends second hand all the time. My point is I doubt people are going to stop going to bars because they can't smoke. People still want to go out and get drunk with their friends, and hopefully if they play their cards right take home a nice looking female. At least that is the goal of this 24 year old every weekend.

It would be interesting to know which kills more, second hand smoke or alcohol (my bet is on alcohol). Maybe they should allow smoking in bars and ban drinking.

Here ya go:
3,000 lung cancer deaths and 35,000 heart disease deaths are attributed to second hand smoke.
By one estimate 100,000 deaths are alcohol related.

IMHO it is wrong to ban smoking in bars. What should happen is that bars can be designated as smoking or non-smoking. All the smokers can be happy at the smoking bar and the non-smokers can be happy at the non-smoking bars. Smokers can go to non-smoking bars and not smoke and non-smokers can go to smoking bars and not whine and complain. Everyone would be happy.

I think the law had two idea's in mind, one to "protect" the customer, and one to "protect" the employee who works around the smoke. So allowing some places to continue to smoke negates one of the idea's.

I think you guys against allowing smoking in bars are missing the point. You are taking away a "choice" and having a "choice" is the America I know and like. I like America best when the "choice" is to build a bar just for smokers (or to build a smokefree one), or the "choice" that you make by avoiding doing the things you don't want to do, rather than forcing other people to go along with what YOU want. Do you go into topless bars and tell her to put the shirt on? Hell no, its none of your business. You don't like it, don't go in.

I am not for or against it, I just like the idea of eating with no smoke. That is all.

Don't you think we should end this in this thread. I keep looking at that photo and wonder what it has to do with smoking. Hint...Hint..

Yeah but it's a two way street.

Smokers: We want to be able to smoke. If people don't like it, don't come to the bar.

Non-Smokers: We don't want to breathe smoke? If people don't like it, smoke outside.

Either way, one side loses out. Who decides what group is better or worse?

The way I see it, everyone makes a conscious decision to go to a bar to drink. People do not make a decision to go there to breathe in cigarette smoke.

The thing is that smokers don't ask non-smokers to not come to the bar. But non-smokers would ask smokers to smoke out side.
I gotta go with Bob though. It's more about choice.

Right. Good point. But, if the guy who built the bar in the first place built it to be one that caters to smokers only, do you have any business in that bar? Do you have a right to go in and demand the smokers go outside and smoke?

Your Honor, the Defense rests.

I went down there tonite and told all the fish to get out, I'm the big dog now!

A little harsh on the fish, but isn't it our right to be able to go to the lake and not have to deal with the smelly fish and aquatic plants.
