Okay Ed there seems to be an issue with Bens maps and not only his maps but other online map servers I'v etried with tracks.Bens mpa will display my waypoints no problems but when I tried to put a track on it came up empty.I tried a trick Guy told me about and it worked. If you don't have a free program called Easy GPS then download it.A very small program works well and quite free.Open your track file in Easy GPS then save it as another file and rename it.The try to upload it to Bens maps.It should work, mine did.Easy GPS fixes many bad files which i don't really think my files are bad since I have had other people besides you complain of the same problem on other servers. In any case Easy GPS seems to fix the bug. That is quite a purty track ,ain't it :)

It sure is purty, and such an effective way to convey your hike. I will try Easy GPS, I've used it before. I tried to put tracks from both my Oregon 450 and 60CS, which differ slightly, but neither works. The 450 tracks contain alot of info:
1 10 ft 13 ft 0:00:11 0.8 mph 155.5° true 1/31/2012 12:11:39 PM N39.68436 W74.65050
2 10 ft 28 ft 0:00:16 1.2 mph 165.8° true 1/31/2012 12:11:50 PM N39.68433 W74.65048
3 10 ft 25 ft 0:00:07 2 mph 142.3° true 1/31/2012 12:12:06 PM N39.68426 W74.65045
4 8 ft 14 ft 0:00:04 2 mph 142.0° true 1/31/2012 12:12:13 PM N39.68420 W74.65040
5 8 ft 27 ft 0:00:07 3 mph 138.7° true 1/31/2012 12:12:17 PM N39.68417 W74.65037
6 10 ft 13 ft 0:00:12 0.7 mph 152.8° true 1/31/2012 12:12:24 PM N39.68411 W74.65030
7 13 ft 2 ft 0:00:01 2 mph 257.2° true 1/31/2012 12:12:36 PM N39.68408 W74.65028

Thanks,
Ed

Let us know if this works.I'll be putting tracks on of my exploration trips from now on except to any sensitive sites.I'd love to be able to attach a gps to Sophie and see how many miles she does as compared to mine.I bet she at least triples my mileage,

Al, it worked! Both with my 60cs and Oregon 450 gpx files. Basecamp will not open the saved Easy GPS gpx file but will display it on the map. It must be stripping stuff from the Garmin file such as height, date, bearing.....

If any one wants to download Easy GPS, go directly to the source.
http://www.topografix.com/

There are alot of sites that offer it but they want to install tool bars and other junk.

They like to slip those toolbars in unnoticed but if you pay attention as you install it there is usually a place to uncheck the toolbar so it won't come with the program you want.Even if you have to install the toolbar with it after your finished you can got to your Control Panel and uninstall the toolbar.I have learned the hard way to pay attention when I install anything or you will end up with a bunch of crap that you do not want.

Molly & I hiked the southern end of the Batona Trail Saturday morning...from the new southern terminus to Martha Bridge and back....almost 16 loooong miles. The weather forecast called for light snow, so I was anticipating a pleasant walk through gentle snowflakes. Instead, it began to rain by the time I reached the Oswego River and continued for the rest of the hike.
Even with the rain, the reroute brings you past some cool water features and I spotted some interesting fungi. I saw or heard red-bellied woodpeckers, pine warbler and chickadees.

Here are the photos I shot and here is my route.

We have been hiking the trail from Ongs Hat south this winter. On Monday we hiked the section between 72 and 563. I was somewhat dissapointed, although it certainly is better than hiking down asphalt. I was hoping it would take us by the old bogs, but it mostly stayed far from them. There is much trash up by 72.

Much of the trail is quite wet. There are many bridges and planks. Some of the planks were floating. The bridges were made of cedar with the bark still showing. I imagine they won't last long.

I'm looking forward to the next section, 563 to 532.

Bella fell off the bridge by the bog and went completely under., then she went nuts on the trail because she was wet.

yes the trail crosses the yard where a house use to be just east of these houses and there is a newspaper box stuck in the sand along the trail where the yard used to be.The rest of the houses as you can see are still there. The trail passes east of these between them and the north south road .Here is where the newspaper box is in the old yard. http://binged.it/Zsd9En
Nice meeting you today Ed.I knew I'd run into you someday but having rotating days off I usually don't run into too many people in the woods on week days.Surprised me there were actually folks on the trail today.Of course there was no one at my destination and didn't appear to have been visited in quite some time.My Buddy with me said you actually come to places like this by yourself? I said I have no choice working the screwed up hours I do.All my friends work days with weekends off so other then my dog I'm usually alone.

I saw that box on Monday, I didn't know there was a house there.

Since the sun came out we decided to hike between 563 and 532.
Cedar Bridge, I wonder how long it will last?

We almost had white caps today.

The bridge you show there I have walked over four times now, three thimes in snow.everytime there was snow on the ground there were fox tracks all in the vicinity of that bridge and the fox is using it.I followed him almost from wwhere you saw me parked today to about a hundred yards past that bridge and he headed into the swamp to the east.I assume it is the same fox I see tracks of everytime I go there in the snow.

Echoing that the new section is really nice. That roadwalk was a killer, especially when doing the whole trail. The new section might be the most interesting stretch now, but that might just be my brain thinking different is better (which it is when it takes away asphalt).

I finally got a chance to check out a few miles of the new section couple weeks ago. Very impressed with all the work that went into making all the bridges and planks. Very nice hike

I'm hiking the trail starting at the south end in a few weeks, which is the section I've done the least. Has the starting place moved from Coal Road? The last time I walked that stretch, we ended up taking the Pink Trail the wrong way through Bass River for a while, I'd like to avoid a repeat. It's a long way from the start to Buttonwood Campground where we're spending the first night...

Does anyone have a GPX track of the southern section and the starting point? I may want to break that section up and need to know if there are roads near by.
