Hey people,
I am out of shape and want to start slow back into hiking.I see you all with the same kind of boot.Can you tell me where there from,the model and how the sizes runs. Thank you for your time

Hi Dogg, My green boots are made by LaCrosse and I use the Alpha model. They run in numeric sizes. I bought my boots from the Sportsman's Den on Rt 130 in Bordentown, a little North of the city. You can order them online but I got the same price from Sportsman and I would prefer to deal with a store that is in the area. The boots work out real well in a variety of situations. Of course they are good in sandy, wet ground such as we have in So Jersey. As we speak, I am in the Great Smokey's in NC and they work well here in the rocky terrain. A few days ago we were in the Blue Ridge and we had mud and again, they worked well, good traction and there is not a hint of slipping off and they are warm when used with a good sock.Next, we are headed to KY and then WV and I am sure that I will still be using the boots there, as we have wet weather throughout the area.

new balance has a couple of high boots. i have the NB1201. too date i have 1100 miles on them. they are gor-tex so they will not dry over nite, but if you are not doing long distace it doesn't mater. if you are not in snow or mud consider trail runners.

I got a nice pair of Alpine Design boots at Sports Authority.

Waders and whatnot can be bought at Wal-Mart or Sports Authority. A lot of time the PBX crew will hike in waders to keep the bugs out (and also because it's a pain to change into waders mid-hike.)

For hiking I use Vasque Sundowners, have owned 3 pair, they fit me like a pair of slippers. They've served me well here at home and from Maine to Florida. Pennsylvania to Montana. Buy footware that fits you best. Try them on with the socks you will be using. I buy at Campmor on Rt 17 in Paramus, usually by mailorder as I know what fits me best. If you can get to their store, it is amazing, take lots of $$$$ :D

I wear an 18" tall, 200g rubber boot. Labeled as Ducks Unlimited, so I'm not sure of the manufacturer. They're very comfortable. They're about 12 years old & are holding up great. Day to day hikers, I wear the one mentioned by Ben.

I wear a medium hight pair of danner hiker's, don't know the official style name, but can't really go wrong with about anything danner has. got them five years ago and are still great.

however, last summer, i got a pair of merrell trail runners. these are very comfortable and light. as advertised, they are great for trail running, but are wonderful for just hiking around as well. especially for just hiking around the pines, you don't need a big heavy boot weighing you down. the merrell trail runners are cheaper than a standard hiking boot, as well as very comfortable, etc., so i highly recommend checking out a pair of these.

LaCrosse Grange. I wear them almost every day for work and in the woods. They have done me good in the swamps of Jersey to the mountains in Vermont. They feel as good on my feet as my nike airs. I also have Alpha sports(LaCrosse) and Burlys(LaCrosse) but my feet get to hot in them hiking, they are good for sitting in a deer stand.

Lacrosse Burlys for wet hiking and hunting. They are warm and stand up to a lot of abuse.

For hunting and hiking in dryer conditions I like Irish Setters. I have a pair from Dicks that I wore out over a period of 8 years.
I just bought the Irish Setter Mountain Claws and am getting ready to break them in.

these boots did great. over 1000 miles with a pack, is unheard of for boots. down to -5 degrees and up to 90. i don't know what to say. nobody on the trail got these miles out of a pair of boots. wearing them right now. :) but boot are a PERSONAL thing, what works for you, may not work for others,

Hey thanks for all the info on the different boots! When I said all the same boots I went by a photo of a group going through the pines on a hike. the green knee high boots for going in water and walks in the pines. This worked out great so I know I need 2 different kinds of boots. Thank you all again, with all that info I am off to a great start:)
