Burglaries in Tabernacle

A house behind me that sits back ways through the woods from me was burglarized a couple weeks ago. The owner spoke to me about it and was warning some of his neihbors. Sure enough my next door neihbor was burglarized today. It is unsettleling as this is my next door neighbor (our houses are about and acre or a little more apart). The worst part is, I was probably home when it happened, or perhaps that is the best part since my house might have been hit if I wasn't. I noticed a gutter displaced near one of my windows, but I can not be certain something else did not cause that.

I spoke with some state troopers (there were five ST cars) they said there have been a rash of burglaries in Tabernacle, Southampton and Woodland twp. They don't know if it is an individual or a group. They strike when no one is home and usually between 7:30 am and 12pm.

If you live in tabernacle keep a look out. I have my game camera set up. Hopefully it is better at catching a thief than a coyote.

Camera?? bahhh, a nice double barrel with some buckshot would do better!! Unfortunatly because of the economy and christmas time being here now, this is gonna get worse I think. I wouldn't like to kill anyone, but if someone broke into my house and I am around to see it, may God have mercy on thier soul, cause I won't. I am a firm believer in a law abiding citizens right to own a firearm for that very reason, people have a right to protect thier family and property from crap like that. Gotta love NJ sometimes, if it wasn't for the pines and the beach, I think I would of been outta here long ago.

Good luck with that Jeff. I hope they get them soon so you can have peace of mind. That sort of thing happened twice in Bamber since I"ve been here. It was a team both times (man and woman), from a surrounding big town like Toms River or Lakewood. Lacey Police are very good at collaring criminals.

Hopefully the staties make it to hot for them in tabernacle and they move on. If you dont have a dog i suggest you get one. And a gun if you dont have one. Although if a criminal wants to break in to your house they will, the key is making your dwelling a hard target so the criminal will not waste there time and move on to a soft target.GL:hist101:

Ever watch that show where they try to break into a house with the owners consent? It's always so easy to do. My folks were burglered twice; once when the lived up here, they weren't at home when it happened, and once in Florida, they were asleep during it. When it happened in NJ, the detective told my father if it should happen again and they are home and he defends himself, make sure to get the job done. The guy in Florida was to quiet to let him try that approach. The worst part is not losing property, but the feeliing it left them with that someone came into their home, walked around and took something from them. Be aware of strange cars in the neighborhood, get a dog, train him, and legally get a firearm and learn how to use it. For home protection I like my 9mm, won't tear up the house like a shotgun and easy to handle Unfortunately it takes a while to legally purchase one in NJ.

only drawback to the 9mm is that the perp is apt to survive. outside of a head shot it most likely will not put someone down with one shot, with the shotgun there will be only one side to the story.

I have a 870 shotgun, pistol grp and folding stock, I use 00 law enforcement grad shot in it. If you have kids in the house and want to go less than lethal

Even though it is illegal in NJ to own tazers and stun guns it looks like we have a less lethal option that some states dont have. I have never used these rounds so i cant endorse them but i am ordering some for when my son is here. Ill keep the 00 on the shell holder and load the weapon with the less than lethals

the first shot wont kill him but it will turn him and it is the rounds that you fire into his back that the peoples republic of new jersey will put you in prison for . Kill an intruder with one shot in his front side or don't shoot him at all. At least not in a liberal state.

Of course!! The person who is breaking into your house is the victim, kind of like the stories you sometimes hear that a person sued for breaking in a house and getting hurt. Here is a word of advise, empty the clip.

the thing is, the burglaries have only occured when no one is home. It appears the burglars are very careful about this. So the chance of a confrontation is very diminished. They seem to be taking jewlery exclusively from what i understand. So, the camera seemed like a good idea.

It is better, of course, that they are cat burglars rather than armed robbers. However, I have a constant nervous feeling when I am away from the house. A dog would be a good idea. Poison laced nails sticking out of plywood below each window is a good idea also...but that is probably illegal.

Jeff, your right a camera is better, esspecially since it can be used as a very credible piece of evidence to catch the bastards. One thing I would consider is getting a dog, they are great to have, fun to be around and it is a good deterent from break ins when nobody is home. I still can't say I wouldn't hurt them really bad if I caught them in the act though, of course then I would be sued and thrown in jail. I just don't take people stealing or robbing other people very lightly. To be blunt about it, when I hear about it, it really pisses me off. They got my car one time in Philly, I think that is maybe why.
