I have some extra vacation days at work, so a man I work with and I headed out at 7AM this morning to do some woods exploring. By a little after 8 we were trudging through some of the thickest cedar swamps I have experienced. In the midst of one of them we came upon a perfect place to search for flowers in the spring and summer. Yes Bob I have the GPS coordinates

After three hours of exploring in this area, we decide to walk the JCRR, and came to the location where the rails have been removed for the water to run from Chatsworth Lake to the Bogs south of there. The rail continue on the other side.

From there we headed to Moores Meadow Road where the harvesting of cranberries was in full swing. It is interesting how the process works, using at times basic equipment, and also more modern equipment.
The men walking in the bogs held onto boards that consisted of a male bracket on one end, and a female on the other. They could then connect as many boards as needed to catch the cranberries that floated in the water. Then a man with a leaf blower would walk the edge of the bog and blow the cranberries into the wooden skimmer.

And here is the piece of equipment that removes and then sorts the cranberries. The men in the water would force the cranberries up the conveyor on the right, which would pile them into a large container in the back. Then the operator would turn off that conveyor, and start the sorter conveyor. This would remove the cranberries from the vines, and load them into the truck. The vines and excess material would pile up in the front of the machine like dirt.
