Hi I was wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on how treacherous or torn up some trails are. Specifically I want to go to Lake Success out in the Wildlife and game refuge via High Bridge off rt571 but dont want to find out the hard way that its too messed up. I was told there are easier ways to get there but the only thing I can find is Success rd itself (off Prospertown/Colliers Mills rd) and that looks much longer on Google maps. I drive a Forester awd on 15" tires and never go through puddles (the one at Forked River Mtn that ate my right front tire cured me of that)

DJ- You can get to Success Lake with ease from either Rt 571 or Hawkins Road. There is some sugar sand at the intersection near the lake but if you stay to the side it isn't a problem. Last year the state graded and added stone to sections of Success Road from Rt 571 to the lake proper. I can get through it with my Impreza, so you shouldn't have any trouble either.

The soft section is here:

I have a tip for you on insects. I was again reading "A Pine Barren Odyssey" by Howard Boyd, and in the October section he talks about Buck Moths. From around October 15 thru 26 and maybe earlier or later you want to visit the plains and look for them. Howard and others traveled Stephenson Road finding them. I plan on spending a little time and doing the same.

Nice! Thanks for the info! Its coming into my fav time of year for photos in the Pines. Is this road directly across from Barnegat auto recyclers (i forget the actual name) It looks like the area that runs into the cranberry bogs but I may be mistaken. Its been a while since Ive been down 72.

Yes that is correct. The bogs are at Sim Place. So travel that road and look around for them. I plan on giving it a try also. I am sure they are at other places but that area appears to be a sure thing.
