Well, I'm not really sure yet but I think so. I was poking around the woods today after work and ended up driving down two small side roads. It got tight so I parked the truck and decided to do it on foot. Soon after that I walked upon a large puddle with ruts on one side. It was obvious that a rather large truck was driving through there and may have been stuck. I thought it was odd that there was a just a single rut, like just the right side of the truck was stuck in mud. I then noticed what looked like logs lined up under the dirt and some had been damaged by the vehicle. I kicked away more dirt and it seemed like there were quite a few logs covering the area. I'm no expert on corduroy roads but always found them fascinating. I have a feeling that these logs stretch over a distance of at least 25 feet but could be much longer because it such a low lying area. I never expected to discover anything out that way and to be honest I'm not 100% sure they are logs and if they were put down on purpose. It was getting dark and the light was not very good. I don't want to give out the location but feel free to send me a PM.
 
If you go back, take a length of rebar, or something thin and strong enough to poke into the ground. You might be able to get an idea of how far it goes without having to uncover it by digging.

Seriously, it is the long thin steel bars placed inside concrete forms. You've seen it sometimes sticking out of concrete. It's what makes concrete "reinforced concrete". Makes it able to bear heavier loads.
 
Nice find. It is probably a cordory road. There are quite a few in the great swamp and if you were in a sizable cedar swamp anywhere there is usually one about, but this one sounds like it might be considerably old if the timber was completley subterrian. If you could mention where this was or PM me if you want I might be able to tell (maybe) if I know this one. Though, I can't recall any I have come across that have been entirely underground. Again, nice find. they are very cool!

Yup Scott I've done it once or twice, but how many times have you rebared after getting halfway or all the way back home? :dance:

If it is in fact a buried courderoy road, how many others may have been buried over time?
 
I found one back in the late eighties near the Wharton ranger station. It was a puddle or creek crossing and I used to drive over it with my Nissan 4wd truck. It was in bad shape then, I dropped both the front and rear wheels into holes and framed out my truck. I was able to get out though. Ive always wondered if its still there. Maybe Ill take a ride out and look for it.
