I think I am guilty of wishing there were a connection :). The 1839 map showing the D&A route, and the 1880 NYT article on a proposed canal, aren't as alligned as I thought. The D&A comes out down around Manahawkin, whereas the Times states that the proposed canal would have come out further north on the Shark River, so I guess just a case of an error followed 40 years later by some wishful thinking.

No problem, Mark--you presented an interesting "nut" to crack and provided the opportunity to discuss the oldest railroad in the Pine Barren, neither of which is a bad thing!!

Best regards,
Jerseyman

Don't Believe Everything You Read...

I hope to write-up the full history of this line, also known as the Kinkora Branch, for Ben's front page sometime this spring, but my current workload prevents me from even considering it at the moment.

Jerseyman,

Did you ever do a write up on this rail line?

Thanks,

Jim
