Ro and I continued today our exploration of the Jersey shore of Delaware Bay - pix will follow. We "did" East Point and its lighthouse, drove the dike road from near there to the shore of the Maurice River at Heislersville WMA. Terns, Mute Swans at latter. We then visited the 3,700+ acre PSE&G Marsh site at Thompson's Beach. Lots of Osprey and Osprey nests, Egrets. Gotta return and walk trail out to the Bay.

We didn't see/hear a single skeeter in the several hours we were down in the marshes.
BUT, as the financial guys say, past performance is no indicator for future results. It was breezy.......
MAYBE their season's over? Manumuskin might be a better source......
Pix still on the way.

Ben the skeeters are about history down here.Just don't come down on a humid windless day.I doubt we have many more of those left. Most evenings this time of year have a light breeze that will keep em away and it is getting a little cool towards evening for skeeters.Check your marine forecast for the bay and it will give you wind speeds.Anything over 5mph will keep them down.Greenheads are total history but their is an occasional horsefly but they come singly but can drop you with a well placed bite behind the knee but they are rare.Nice walks now that they have been cleaned up are Thompsons and Moore's beaches.Beware when driving out to Moores of the tides.Every high tide floods the road. Not so high you can't get out in a pickup but go very slowly to keep the salt water out from under your hood. The road out there is rocked,a little rough but solid now.Thompsons is paved to the lot and you have to walk a half mile of rocked road from there to the beach and the paved road usually doesn't flood.

the last time I was out there the foundation with fireplace just left of where you hit the beach was still there.Don't know if they left that, will have to go back out and check. The steps at Moores beach are gone.Thats sad.I used to set on those steps when the tide was coming up and crawling up my legs. The beaches are very clean now. Some small pieces of red brick here and there and thats about it.

I head down to Thompsons on my bike from the observation deck, usually the only one out there. That, coupled with its history, makes for an eerie feeling. Lots of items from the 50s still in the area; old bed posts, bottles, various curios. Brick chimney is still there as well. Probably my favorite bay town to walk around when I'm feeling pensive.

I haven't seen a mosquito around here in at least a month. I'm about 5 miles South of Mays Landing, on the edge of the Maple Lake and Lenape Farms WMA's.

Cut out of work today at 1300 hours and took a solo cruise on the mc along a few Delaware Bay coastal towns. I had to pick up some boat parts in Delmont that I had ordered and from there I took the very long way home.

I hit East Point Light first and then backtracked to Thompson's Beach. From there a slow cruise through Leesburg and Dorchester. Home stretch was Port-Cumberland Road and then Union Road through the WMA.

Except for a few egrets stalking the flats I was the only soul at the Thomson's observation deck.
There was a warm salty breeze and a classic Simpson's Sky.

It was as peaceful out there as I could ever remember.

The motorcycle insisted on a selfie.
'MERICA !

Didn't take the walk Al. The road looked worlds better than it did when PSE&G first did their restorations down there. I want to go back with the bride and do some exploring down on the beach.
Good to know about Moore's.

I kinda miss some of the more picturesque objects of the old towns that they cleared off.You know, the old gun emplacement/septic tank lids and such:) but I think I"ll grow to like the beaches better the way they are now.Kinda neat the way your retreat floods out at every high tide.Puts you effectively on your own isalnd for a few hours and that island almost disappears:)
