Doctor's Pond?

Hello - I'm new to the forums but glad to be here! :)

I live in Whiting, less than 5 minutes from Pasadena Rd. Harry Wright Lake is very close by. In the woods surrounding this lake, there is a pond that the locals affectionately refer to as Doctor's Pond, which has a small concrete bridge crossing it as well as some brick structures scattered about the area. Any idea as to this place's history?

Candle, is the pond at the western edge of Harry Wright Lake? If so, I don't know why they call it that, but I think I have been there. It is in the same watershed.

Candle, do you live in Roosevelt City? Tell me more about yourself. It is unusual for someone your age to take an interest in the pines, and you write very well.

I was there today (by Doctor's Pond). It is a very cool place, and those on this site interested in history would find this place very interesting. Wierd foundations, underground pipes, and a big strange looking foundation right on the edge of, and extending into the swamp. There is even a sidewalk around this, proving that it was someone's place one time.

Let me guess; some guy who called himself a doctor decides that the water there (which is very clean and clear) was healthful, and he built a small sanitorium to bring in customers?

Or, there are other clues from Beck's "More Forgotten Towns". On page 93 he talks of "Roosevelt City......a maze of broken concrete walks and street lights, weed-grown and depressing"...or the "Roosevelt City Shirt Factory". Or how about this from page 95: "Interested parties from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania built a mansion they said would set up as a sanitorium, calling the place Lancewood."

In any case, I am going back next weekend some time as I lost some glasses there. Cheap ones, but I just bought them....made me mad.

If anyone wants to come along, you will find these old foundations an interesting place. I also plan to scout the stream some. Take a few hours is all.

I had planned on looking for an inscribed stone next weekend, but if that changes we will come. Unless I can find it right away and then can make it over there. We shall see.

BTW, nice work looking in the Beck book. Kudos!

Hey Guy,

If you go out there, I would love to see some photos of the area. There was a brickworks near that area. Also, if this is "Doctor Pond", perhaps we are talking about white coats, white pills and fluffy slippers vs. white coats and stethoscopes, if you catch my drift. From the sound of it, it seems like there could be some interesting things there.

We can dance around the weather this weekend. I'm flexible. Saturday AM or PM. Sunday AM or PM.

PS: the underground pipes; I'm now thinking that was gas for the street lights, like Harrisville.

Saturday morning I am searching for one thing, and may be able to make it over to meet. But I can't stay even if I make it because of family things in the afternoon. Sunday is fine if the weather keeps me in Saturday. If not, I don't think I can make it two days in a row.

So don't plan anything around me.

Ya! What time Sunday. That is the better day for me too.

I screwed up the trivia question. Too much wine. I was confused with Fare to Midlands, which has the newer name of.....?
