All,

I was out this morning doing some work on the Jenkins Quad, and visited a few places of interest that I have been wanting to stop at. The first location was at the dam across the Wading River that forced the water down the race to the Oswego many years ago. When I was at the dam the last time it was above the water, but not today.

You can see the ripple in the water from the dam.

The only part above the water today.

From there we went stone marker hunting along 563 and 679 at the forks near Harrisville. I pulled over to the side of the road where the gate is just north of the forks.

If you have not visited this area you may want to stop there and explore sometime. The gate block an old road that leads to a cellar hole with stone and bricks.

The road.

And as you start down the road the area on the right has had some major excavating at one time in the past. An interesting place to see.

And I did find the stone marker I was looking for.

And on our way home we saw two of these on Bulltown road :)

The east end of the dam washed out last year. At low water it looks quite different now.

What are the Xs for?

They are aerial marks so that when the aerial photo's are spliced together they line up the "x" on the photo's. I posted on a surveyor message board and asked the same question and they informed me of that. There is also a thread on this site talking about them I believe.

Keep your eyes out for them now and you will see them everywhere.
