This is my first post here, and I'd like to share a photo of a beautiful eastern hognose snake (Heterodon platirhinos) that I discovered while walking a trail in Ocean County just a few days ago. It's a really nice specimen, but I'm ashamed to say that I disturbed it by accident. You can tell it's disturbed by the coiled tail and flattened nape. I guess being disturbed is better than being stepped on, though! Thankfully after just a few minutes the snake slithered off into some very think Kalmia spp.
