Yeah, I'm worried that it might harm the ticks and chiggers :)

But seriously, the news media loves to latch onto stuff like this but this heat wave doesn't sound any worse than others I've seen since I moved here in 1994. Any of the native species must be able to deal with the sometimes harsh conditions around here. It's us people with our cars, power lines and household pets that are usually at risk...

I think I might call my local news station to see if they want to do a story on me. I spent all morning outside and I'm still alive!!! I'm seriously sick of this "don't go outside or else you'll die a painful horrible death" crap. We all know by now that drinking water and Gatorade is a good thing in the heat and that you should check on your elderly neighbors, etc... Some of us (me included) don't have a choice but to be outside...

badfish im gonna guess your probably somewhat a youngster (no older than 35 )and in good health. i too was once invinceable to the heat but to think like that is a sure way to get a one way trip to the hospital. you are better off to get the woork done in the morning hours. im not too sure i believe in that gatorade stuff. i think too much salt and sugar gets the heart working too hard. i think most get enough salt in a regular diet. as for the record heat it has come and gone but i dont remember 110 heat indexs in quite some time . i work outdoors and i love when i step inside the office and the boss says its not that bad out is it? if your going from air conditioned room to a air condition car its easy to shrug off the heat.

The problem with gatorade is it quenches your thirst. Which as a result causes you to get more dehydrated because you don't feel like you need to drink anymore. You can't go wrong with good old h2o.

Gatorade has an advantage over water because it has electrolytes which are important. Without them you can dehydrate much faster. That is the reason a doctor will tell you to make sure an infant is given Pedialyte to prevent dehydration. The sodium in Gatorade will help your body retain fluids thus preventing cramping and liver and kidney damage. Not to say that water is useless by any means. It's just not the best choice.

You can't go wrong with watered down gatorade. It's the best of both worlds and always got me through 2 and 3 a days at football camp in good ole Schwenksville, PA

cold beer in the A/C works too

Schwenksville, eh? Was my old friend Jim Hahn still on the faculty at the high school when you were there?

Sorry L.A.C.; I see you just went to Schwenksville for football camp, you didn't grow up there.
