i was heading up 206 and spotted a field of blue along side the road. there was blue eyed grass and frost weed growing with these. does anyone know whatthey are. i couldn't find them in boyd's wildflower book. thanks lg

For the first one I'll guess it's Erigeron philadelphicus.

Lakesgirl, I identified some in a Whiting field like that last year as Erigon strigosus (rough fleabane). But without seeing it up close, Tom's guess is just as good. The blue one is Lyre-leaved sage (I think).

Northern Lebanon State Forest is known for Chestnut Oak. The leaves do lack serrated edges though, maybe they develop later. Not sure it is an oak for that matter.

I took the same picture today but they didn't come out. My guess is the seeds of a Dwarf Dandelion. Here is a picture of the base( the spiked leaves with long stems).

What the heck is that Pancoast! You mean the flowers with the awns in the center of the photo, right? I have never seen anything like it. That serrated leaf on the right though, looks like swamp dewberry (Rubus hispidus).

They (with the lyre shaped leaves) look like Centaurea nigrescens (a knapweed).

That second one in post 497 is intriguing too, looks like a grape fern.

Bob, Some more hobo plants along the railroad in Pemberton. Do you know why the one plant is foaming? My guess is some type of insect.
