Forest fire burning on Fort Dix
August 28, 2008
FORT DIX, N.J. - Firefighters are battling a forest fire on the Fort Dix military reservation.

Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman Darlene Yuhas said Thursday evening that at least a couple of hundred acres in a remote area of the base, near the Ocean-Burlington county line, about 25 miles southeast of Trenton, are involved.

Yuhas said Fort Dix firefighters have been working to contain the blaze.

She said the state Forest Fire Service is monitoring the fire, and additional firefighters would be assigned if the fire moves off the military property.

We were heading down 70 in Whiting this morning about 8:30 and it was really thick. By the time Jessica replaced the batteries in my camera it had thinned out; however, we did get this shot.
