We went there this morning and I have photos of the serial number. I will work on that and post later today.
GMC Truck Long Hidden In The Pines

Here is the information on our truck.
The serial number is FC 101 618. As far as I can tell it is a 1947 GMC truck. The F indicates it is a 1947-1950 and the C indicates a Conventional Cab. Looking at the charts 46er posted it appears to be a 1947 Series 100 because of the FC 101.
The photos are in two parts. The second one is the right side of the plate. So this one shows FC 101 and it is 76 horse power.
And this one shows the 618 and the horsepower is at 3000 RPM.
The charts to look over.
Jessica was looking at the serial plate on the bed and it fell off so I have it here. I have to clean it somewhat and will post that info soon.
While taking photo's of the serial plate on the door we had to get close to the ground and Jessica found a penny that either had been on the ground there for years or it fell out of the door while we were taking photos. It is a 1958D.

They did not make San Francisco pennies that year so it could never have been an S.

Okay. The bed plate model number says HFC-6-2572. We can all work on that. Manufactured by International Harvester.
Are you saying the truck is a mutt? GMC with an IH bed? Perhaps that is why the fuel filler location was cut out.
based on the other pics it appears to be the proper bed for the truck. It is not unheard of for manufacturers to trade/use/produce parts on each others vehicles. If this is so (IH bed on the GM truck) I never knew or heard that info before.
Hmmmm...... I may agree on the bed, but the fenders are def for that GMC, the 37 IHC's are different, and the spare is on the right side on most I'm looking at

Its owner probably replaced the bed. In post #11 you can see where the bed was cut to accommodate the fuel filler pipe. The cab looks pretty much untouched, except for the wonderful patina
It was probably just left to the rust God's where it broke down.
The bed picture with Bob in it looks like the inside of my '02 F-350 ! I think my saddle tool box is actually holding everything together. The passenger side is sitting 3" lower than the driver side now.
Sadly, I literally have a million mile rated International Harvester designed diesel engine that sips fuel and doesn't miss a beat, nested inside a 250,000 mile body.
Meanwhile, my '97 F-350 is rust free and the bed is as solid as a rock.
