Wow, a mile and a half out! I've seen deer crossing the Mullica near the forks and in Maine I've seen them swim pretty far across lakes. Sounds like this guy was real disoriented. He might have had trouble seeing the horizon if there was some wind.
Anyway, these guys are alright in my book. Handling a buck like that can be quite an undertaking but I guess he was just too exhausted.
My prediction...if the buck can get himself to water he'll be okay. I wonder if he drank some of the brackish water in the bay. Probably did.

That's remarkable. And here I was surprised seeing deer swimming across the Delaware river on occasion.
