Greentown

Has anyone ever heard of Greentown? Aparently when the state purchased Wharton they believed they owned the "Greentown" property and even surveyed it. But in reality they did not own it. Today the 43 acre property is partially a housing development near Elm just south of Anchor Lake.



This map shows the surveyed property in the latter 1950s. Notice it says "State of NJ Formally Joseph Wharton" and then crossed off to say "Private"

This might be a good one for Redneck. My father always considered Anchor lakes part of Millers bogs. I never understood why. Is it possible that the state sold it off since it was such a remote tract?

They may have sold it or they may have traded it which they often do.

It's called Elmtowne now and it's a 55+ community

How do you get property boundaries like THAT?

You would be amazed how odd the properties are in the pines. I would have to assume it is from the heirs dividing them up over the years so that everyone gets an equal share.
