Pardon the selfless promotion but I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in having a get together at Atco Raceway? I know some people got together at the Silver Fox and it sounded like a great idea. So I want to put the offer out there. I work at Atco Raceway and can get everyone in for free. Thought it might be a cool idea to get together and put some names with faces. To make it Pine Barrens related our property runs against the Wharton State Forest! I tried! Atco Raceway does have a rich history in the area, it opened in 1960, making it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. Of course there is plenty of racing available but we also have a bar for the people who like to enjoy adult beverages. Just an idea, thought I would throw it out there. Let me know. :)

Me and my GF would definitely be there, free or not it makes an excellent Saturday evening out in the pines.

I pretty much grew up at Atco. It started back when I was 13 maybe 14 years old, in the eighties. I was building engines, transmissions, and crew chiefing a friends race car. ( I know this may be hard to fathom that I did this at such a young age, but thanks to my Dad teaching me from when I was very little and my friend Tony who trusted me to work on his car, I was able to do it)
We ran in Super Pro with a 69 Camaro that ran 10.80's. We would always finish in the money and even won the whole show a few times, (pre delay box era LOL) Tony was an awesome driver. Many a night we would laugh and celebrate as we put the big boys on/in the trailer.
They (track officials) used to chase me from the staging lanes and we would argue how I built the car, to let me stay in the lanes, but they would kick me out any way (state law) LOL.
When I turned 17 I went on to drive a 67 Camaro as my first Drag Race experience down Atco's 1320'. I ran 11.80's with the car, this was in 1989. Not long after that I ran a 1985 IROC Camaro that I built from the ground up with my Dad. I ran a best of 9.47 @ 140mph. I never made it past second round or eliminations with either car. I also ran several cars in street class and on friday nights, just for fun. Drag Racing is more difficult than it appears, that's for sure.
After several tries @ racing I decided it was more fun to go fishing than to spend my day sweating, hanging out in the staging lanes wearing a 3 layer fire suit waiting to run, so I gave up driving in the early to mid 90's.
It's been several years now since I raced a car but I still enjoy going down to ATCO on a Friday or Saturday night to watch the races, and rooting for the old school guys that we used to run against back in the day.:D:guinness:Sorry for the novel.........Mike

Atco's chili will warm you up on a chilly Pine Barrens evening:dance:

I have been going to atco for ever, I have a car I bring on street night and test and tune days. I have allways had a street car plus a driver for the last 17 years. I would love to go also, once it warms up a little. 9.47 thats cooking, my quickest car ran low 12's, a 87 z-28, my new car is also a 87 z-28, with any luck and some money once my new car is done it will be a solid 12 second car I can get in and drive 400 miles if I want to. a car is no fun if you can't drive it on the street.

Thanks for all the replys. Let me know when you would want to do this. Just so you know we should be getting Pabst Blue Ribbon very soon!!:guinness: Haha, I know there are some PBR drinkers out there.
Just to let you know Atco is doing very well and 2007 was our best year yet. Hard to believe but we have been around since 1960! Check out the pic. From either 1960 or 61. Oldest one I have found.

It is interesting to note that the only vehicle in the photo that looks "modern" is the Jeep. They don't change much.

That is a generous offer Trailhead. My drummer did a fill in with a band that played that bar in there. (Flash Cube) I went there that night. Set a date and I will see if I can make it.
