I was wondering if anybody has ever been to the hirst ponds preserve in galloway? If so is it a good spot to check out and where exactly is it? Thanks for any info on this.. Dave

Dave, I'd be very careful about trespassing on that property. That belongs to the Nature Conservancy and is zealously looked after due to environmental sensitivity.
So its like private property then and there is no trepassing then? If so I guess I won't make the trip then. Don't want any trouble with the law. Thanks Dave..
No, I should not have said no trespassing. If you go, look for signs that tell you what is and isn't allowed. If I were going through there on my way to somewhere else, I would go ahead and cross it. Just be careful if you linger and do other things.
I have never been there but I know its in Galloway Township and encompasses 340 acres. I know about it through reading a lot of environmental news. Google it up.
While I'm not familiar with that particular site, the Nature Conservancy is a great organization. If you are interested in one of their locations give them a ring and they will be more than helpful. They dont have problems with people checking out locations, but they do want to know when and where you will be, otherwise it will be considered trespassing.

It would be VERY interesting to know if it was on their site prior to Feb 1st. If it was there on January 31st, then someone is monitoring this site and making phone calls. Very interesting.
They probably just haven't done a webpage for it yet. I was just looking at the Nature Conservancy site a few weeks ago because I wanted to see what info I could find after "discovering" their property along the Plains Branch, and I noticed that the link wasn't active then.

Anyway, you can see they changed their site a little, but there was still no active link for hirst ponds a year ago.
The plains branch property sounds intersting because it seems too far east. Have you been there? Whats on it? Can you place it on a map?
I believe it's been discussed here at one time or another? This is the area I was talking about - the lake is really spectacular. Actually I'm a little reluctant to post this info since it seems like a pretty secluded spot that isn't trashed yet, so Ben should feel free to delete these links if he doesn't think they belong in public view:

Are you guys talking about the same place? Boyd's links and photos are for the TNC house. The area that Bob seems to be talking about is where one of the Lawrence Line markers is.

Yeah. The house isn't there anymore however. Seems to me someone posted a photo of it awhile ago. Those other directions are for a different nature conservancy site which I haven't visited....
