I like to visit small historical "society" buildings of areas I favor. I kept missing for one reason or another the Tuckerton Historical Museum.
NOT to be confused with the Tuckerton Seaport, which is also a wonderful place. I finally made it this Saturday.
I won't go on about Tuckerton itself again but I will say... please stop in sometime. It is very focused on Tuckerton & Little Egg.
It is in the old Giffordtown Schoolhouse, a two room jobby rich in history and packed with artifacts and articles. Dedicated and nice folks run it. Most of what you see is donated by area people, incredible collection.
It has very short and odd hours but for two days a week so it is tricky.
They hold some simple events that seem pleasant. You would be surprised how well the region and it's person's of history are intertwined with the Barrens. A significant part of it is dedicated to the Tuckerton Wireless for any of you who want to see a huge collection of material on that fascinating piece of Jersey history.
I must look up the fellow who runs their site, an Historian and Author also involved in the Bass River and New Gretna Histories and site. Now that's an area of interest really poking into the Pine Barrens.
(Strange coincidence, My wife knows his wife)
Well anyway, check it out. It will not disappoint. It is small but fascinating.
