History of South Jersey insert

In today's Courier Post, my grandmother saved it for me. Haven't had a chance to flip through it yet, but figured I'd mention it.

They had a history of South Jersey Towns one a while back with one page on each town, that one was very interesting.

MikeBickerson:

Based on a preliminary meeting I had last May with the writing and editorial staff about this section, I had some high hopes, but, in the final analysis, I am very disappointed in the final product. Not only did they take easy way out by consulting a number of websites with no understanding of good versus bad information, but the printed sources they cite are, for the most part, erroneous in many ways.

Regarding the South Jersey Towns section back in the fall, I began reading the articles and making a list of the many errors in it and sending it to the managing editor, but I finally gave up because it became very time consuming.

That's because, and I mean this in the nicest way since my family worked for the paper for over thirty years, the Courier Post isn't a real newspaper.

It's a shame too, with their circulation if they put the proper effort into it...

Amen to that! It is a shame, but in many ways, the Inquirer does a much better job of covering South Jersey than the Courier Post. When I look at old editions of the CP during research projects, I just shake my head at what they once published versus what they publish today!

I can't get too specific, but one of their writers has a well documented grudge and has publicly ground his axe over it for the past 14 years, resulting in many nasty attacks on people I work with as well as me personally. It's a disgrace that they continue to publish his column after so many years (in spite of various legal wranglings), but I'm pretty well "over it." However I certainly won't support them by purchasing their paper.

I have it in my car and will be reading it at work during lunch this week.

Knowing the writers staff like I do, I can just imagine exactly who you are talking about!

Say no more.
