...right next to I95 underpass. Plus, be sure to add spinach or broccoli rabe. Pure heaven!

Mmmm... Broccoli rabe, sharp (or aged) provolone, and roast pork. I think I'll skip breakfast this morning and go straight to lunch.

Hey!
You know some people on this web site do not have access to food like that!
I have to drive three hours for a sandwhich like that. Hell I would settle for the roll that they put the goods on! The bread is so overlooked until you can't get it. You could be a little more considerate to the less fortunate!

In my younger days I backpacked most of the Shenandoah trails, at least in the Northern and Central Districts. I have hiked Old Rag several times, including one Winter backpack trip that provided me with a view so beautiful that I remember it to this day. I hiked up Old Rag during an Ice Storm and on the way up I could overlook a cloud below me and all of the ridges and mountains in the west were covered in frozen ice and snow, a gorgeous view.

Wow frozen ice eh? Just joshin! That must have been interesting getting over the boulders with everything ice slick. Did you live in VA at the time?

No, I have always lived in NJ, but the Skyline Drive area was my favorite haunt for backpacking trips. It's been awhile since my last backpack trip, but I still try to camp there every year, mostly Matthews Arm.

I camped at Loft Mountain on Skyline Drive years ago. About the 80 milpost or so.

I am on the left. Developed 1/78.

Andy,

I really am thrilled you enjoy them. And to Andy and everyone else, thank you for all the kind words over the years. I have a nasty habit of not responding to posts with positive comments and compliments.

So to make up, here is another photo. This shows the side of the bridge at Martha in 1978/1979. You can see at the top I am using my knife to incise something in the wood, and it looks like my friend John is about to do the same. :)

No problem Guy, Your photo's are always great and really love the then and now’s. A lot of the photos you post were before my time, and it is nice to see how things used to look. It is unfortunate though that 99% of the time the then's always look better. I hate to see things ruined because of vandalism, or sometimes just plain neglect. But keep the photo's coming and thanks again for taking the time to both post them and actually being able to hold on to the photo's through the years.
