It must be 'Shark Week'

That's a neat thing to watch...from the shoreline!

If I'm out there crusing around in my kayak and snapper blues start jumping over my deck to avoid a shark torpedo...well...lets just say there goes a perfectly good pair of shorts!

I was surfing off of Nelson Avenue in Beach Haven, a few years ago, when a school of Blues started breaking the surface (minus the sharks) around the group I was with just behind the breakers. Scared the hell out of me when something hit the bottom of my board hard! I made it to the shore in record time. I was jittery when I reentered the water after sitting on the beach for an hour or so. The scene from Jaws kept replaying in my head.

I read a report that a fella in south Jersey, Ocean City I think, caught a 6 foot shark from his kayak. The article said he regularly fishes for and catches shark, but never that large.

If Blues got to be the size of sharks, that would be the end of life on earth as we know it. When my brother was in the CG he took some video of blues pinning a school of bunker to the dock. All that was left was a red stain and scales.
