After Friday, I have no work until January 2, and no school until the 15th. I have been ultra-busy for months and months now...

Therefore, to do list:

Smithville (Burlington County one)
Old Salem Road - thanks Jerseyman
Batsto - NEW visitors center, have not seen it!!!
Sally Starr's
Thompson's Beach
Amatol Munitions Plant/Racetrack
Wheaton Villiage - somehow I've never been
USS New Jersey - for a work party
Maybe LBI or Cape May

I want to go to Pea Patch Island too, but the ferry is closed down for a while. I'm probably dragging some of my friends along a couple of days, but this is not their thing. If anyone has any suggestions or wants to add their own to do list, great! If anyone would like to join me, that's great too!

Yea...I mentioned to Steve who poted the photo's I was going to be checking out Old Salem Road in the coming weeks also. Maybe this weekend if it rains on Saturday morning and I don't head out to the pines. I am only 10 minutes away from there. I'll brave the traffic and jump that railing!

Amatol Munitions Plant/Racetrack

I wouldn't go there during hunting season. I was there a couple of years ago during the season and ran into a very angry hunter. It is private property and he claimed to have paid a high fee to hunt on it. He was ticked. You don't want to deal with an angry man with a shotgun.

Hey Guy,

For Old Salem Road, I'd suggest parking the car on Munn Lane (Marlton side of Brace) and walking in. It's the Munn with the big houses. If you are on a little, tiny road, it's the wrong Munn.

As for Sally Starr's, it's different than the ice cream place that's open now:

Ole’s Ranch... was a small lake front complex. It began as a dude ranch owned by Ole Larson featuring two of the largest log cabin structures in the area. In the mid 1960s television personality Sally Starr purchased the "ranch" and turned it into a restaurant/dance hall complex called "The Ponderosa." The complex failed as a commercial venture and was abandoned in the early 1970s. The vacant log cabins were destroyed by fire in the mid 1980s.

Been there many times (it's popular for fishing), but I'm braving jumping the dam with my camera to take pictures.

hi mike,jim from phila.,i am interested in amatol,where the munitions plant was,and the town site to the east,also in belcoville,thomsons beach,sea breeze, moores beach,caviar,and doing a furnace and forge tour,as to amatol,most of the racetrack is in a wildlife management area and the plant ruins,there is a parking lot on moss mill road,as to thompsons,moores beach,low tide and possibly chest waders or hip waders,both places are pseg areas.

Belcoville is always a good time, I've been there a few times and I feel like I barely scratched the surface. Estellville is right there too, went on a "Absegami Trip" a few years back with some folks from this board and another list I'm on, it was a lot of fun.

Yea, I need to invest in some waders for Thompson's Beach. I attempted it once in old shoes and pants, and I didnt get very far because of the tide.

Never been to Sea Breeze (been close, but my friend is diabetic and picked a good spot to be unwell) or Caviar.

hi mike,i forgot to also say,i am thinking of trying to go to thompsons beach from the east point lighthousewalking the beach,but i fish at fortescue in the early spring(surf)right on the road at the beach,great string stripers,ever since they raised the limit to 28",keepers tougher, but plenty to be had,the tide there comes up to the bulkhead at the road,dont know if possible to walk to thompsons from east point,but i will try,whats the distance to thompsons from the old road?almost a mile,looks like the same to moores beach,i fish(surf)at fortescue till i put my boat in at little egg harbor in early may.thanks,jimbo

Munn Lane is a good alternative to parking on Brace Road. However, be forewarned that the portion of the Salem Road nearest to Munn Lane is private property and other trespassers have gotten in trouble in the past. Just thought you should know. When are you planning to visit?

I posted about this before.
A good chunk of the old Amotol property is owned by the State and it is part of the Hammonton Creek WMA.
Most of the track is in the WMA.

If it rains on my usual pines days this extended weekend I will be going then. Jerseyman...have you walked it? How far from the bridge do I go? It does not appear on aerial maps I believe.

There is only about quarter-mile or less of the roadway present in the woods today, but it is worth the experience of standing on it. While in the area, you can also visit Bonnie's Bridge on Wayland Drive and there are some other items of interest back Munn Lane, including an historic house and a very large spung. If you want to take a tour of the area, let me know and I'll try to sneak away from Christmas preparations and give you the $0.05 tour.

I am interested in going so you tell me when is best for you and I will work around it if possible. So far Saturday is fine (rain in the morning???) and even the early part of Sunday should be fine. And I have Tuesday off also. Or next weekend if that is better.

I actually live on Munn Lane (the apartments on the non-mansions side), so I wasn't worried about parking, I was just going to walk down to the historic sign and go into the woods there. If you and Guy meet up and would be interested in a third, let me know.

Chris ~ That would be great, thank you for offering. Is there any particular day/time that would be best for you? I'm sure other people would be interested as well...

Hey Mike, any weekend that my wife is not working would be good, she just changed to per dium or something like that and has yet to give me a january or february schedule.
