I mentioned in a different thread that I went to the Pemberton Railroad Museum. The two volunteers that were in there were great. Really good guys, very knowlegable and clearly excited about not only railroad history but the history of the area in general. I should also mention that they have some some artifacts from Hanover Furnace in there, you probably already knew that Araidne but in case you didn't... One of the guys there knew the great great, etc, grand daughter of the iron master or something like that. She still lives in a green house near the base I believe.

Anyway, they reprinted the 1876 Scotts atlas of Burlington county and are selling it to raise money. It costs about $32. I bought one and I have to say it is great. Very high quality reprint, a real coffe table atlas! The reason I got it though was because of the information it provides. I was surprised at how "to scale" it is for the time period. It lists the names of land owners as well. This one old piney house I know (a real crazy, maniac type one) showed up on the atlas much to my surprise. I strongly suggest that you all check out the museum. It is right off the main drag in Pemberton on fort Dix Road 609-894-0546.

I bought a copy of it at the Pemberton Museum, too. It is a nice book. The people at the Pemberton Historic Trust are a great bunch of people as well. They have been very helpful to me with my research. I had given them a full scale copy of the Jones Tract map that I have. If anyone stops in there and is interested in seeing it, Mike Tamn would know where it is. It isn't a very good copy, though.

That museum is great. I completely agree. They also sell a little publication about Hanover Furnace that includes descriptions and pictures of artifacts that were donated. Very cool! It is worth the trip.

That Atlas is very good. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the history of South Jersey. There's much more in it than just great maps. I know they printed a bunch but I'm a little surprised that they haven't run out of them yet. They were available for at least the last 2 or 3 years. I'm fortunate enough to have an original which is about 20% larger and the maps are all beautifully colored around the edges. It was great to get one that I didn't have to worry about opening on a regular basis. The Pemberton Historic Trust who had it reprinted, was also going to reprint JJ White's "Cranberry Culture". They wanted to see the copies I had to see if the different editions contained different info. I let them take a look at the small differences and assumed they would go on with the project but I haven't seen anything yet.
