Finally the weather improved and on Friday we decided to take a picnic lunch and kayak a short section of the Mullica below Atsion Lake. We did not start at 206 because the water is fast and the river is tight there and we did not want to spend our trip in the bushes. Instead we started a short distance down Quaker Bridge Road at the beach and ended up at the beaver pond.

There was lots of water but the river wasn’t flooded, the banks were well above the river. It was a faster trip than usual and there were no blockages.
There were plenty of these

We had lunch on a beach further on down where it is open. This is where a fire burned back in 2007.
The trees are coming back nicely although they do look a little odd.

One small new since the fire pine was marked with orange tape. It had a fresh pine cone growing on it. Maybe someone is watching the area.
Here’s a sight I found very annoying. What’s next billboards?

The numbers were decending down the river. They are attached with deck screws.

It was a long overdue paddle on a beautiful day.

Nice report Ed. I believe the plant is an Aster.

Thank you for sharing your trip, Ed. It's nice to see the new pine growth. I've wondered whether asters were common there, and you found big clumps of them! Perhaps Bob will see this and give us an ID? Thanks to you too, Guy, for the close-up. I really like the golden bouquet in its center.
