Yeah, it's great. Cool that it's available as an e-book. Welcome to the party! :D

You had posted this already Boyd? I downloaded it a long time ago and just got around to reading it.heck I may have gotten it from your post for all I remember.I"m on archive.org so much looking I can';t remember how I happened on it.I do know I have so many stored books off of there I couldn't read them all in a hundred years. Mostly history and nature guides ans some travel books.I"m loaded for life long as the grid dont go down

Actually, @Piney2LA posted the thread I linked to above, but it turned out several of us had copies of the book. And that thread also inspired me to finally make Kobbe's Map of the Pines, which I had been thinking about for awhile.

The e-book is actually very nice, because the print in the hard copy is really tiny and hard to read. Have only read bits of it here and there because it's not a pleasant experience. But you can zoom in on the e-book and read it much more easily.

I wonder whether archve.org can survive, between the lawsuits and the hack? An old friend of mine was named as a defendant in one of the lawsuits, because his studio was involved with digitizing old 78 RPM records.

I didn't know they were involved in lawsuits. A lot of their books are previews and not free downloads. All the ones I"ve gotten are pretty old and most certainly their copyrights have ran out. Now PDF Drive is another story. You can get much newer books on there.I don't know if it's legal or not?

People also use them to archive old copies of operating system software. Over at MacRumors, a member claimed that archive.org had shutdown and could no longer be reached. I checked and it was working fine for me. After some investigation, turns out that some other countries (this person was from the UK) have blocked access to them. But it wasn't for copyright reasons, apparently there is also "adult material" on the site that got them blacklisted. IIRC, it was somewhat complicated though, the UK ended up relaxing the law but many internet providers continued to block them anyway.

I have used archive.org for many, many years and think they're great. But - like I said - I worry that they may be sued or regulated out of existence in the future.
